Overcast
Total Time = 1h 13m 10s
Overall Rank = 87/257
Age Group = Master Clysedal
Age Group Rank = 7/17
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:40 and oatmeal for breakfast. Opened the garage door to a real rain. Back inside to check the radar - looks local to Lake Norman. Wrap my bike up and get off by 5:15. Get to the lot at the Y at 5:50. Little later than I wanted and it is raining
Event warmup:

Took me a few minutes to get my bearings on the race setup. I still can not figure out why chip pick up and body markings were so far apart.

Set up my transition area - I was a mess this morning - took my forever to feel like I was together. I jumped in the pool for a warmup 250. Water was warm and felt good. Dried off then ran some - every time I try and do a warm up run and I so tense. Need to work on this.

Tight transition area but it was a non issue

Then I sat and relaxed to my music (and visit the restroom 4 times). Grab lots of water, and some food.

I purposely got to the start line with like 5 minutes to go.
Swim
  • 05m 43s
  • 328 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Transition 1
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Need to get better here - next time might be no socks and trying with shoes on the bike. But I felt good coming out and not hyper ventilating.
Bike
  • 37m 14s
  • 12.7 miles
  • 20.47 mile/hr
Comments:

New bike made a big, big difference. I was moving and I passed a bunch of folks. Like a ton. Aero bars were a huge help and was focused on keeping the mph in the 20s. I rode hard but felt still I can harder
What would you do differently?:

This was my third real ride on the bike and first real ride with the bars. Bars needed adjustment. I can only get faster
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

Felt fast; took time to grab a bite to eat this time. Good move
Run
  • 27m 8s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

The run is my issue - I am getting better - this is my third tri ever and the the best run ever. I had the first mile in just under 9 minutes so the third mile was quick - real quick
Post race
Warm down:

I took time to cool down; really did not feel so bad thanks to the amazing weather. Took a great massage and a really long hot shower. Was not hungry until much later.

Event comments:

Compared to Gold Rush, this is a much better tri - simply easier. The bike course is better and the run is better. I had three goals:

1) Break 1:20
2) Break 1:18 (was going to have too race well to do this)
3) Stretch goal - break 1:16 ( would have to really race well and transition well) - I thought I could do it but the match was fuzzy.

So going 1:13:10 was unexpected but really pleased. The swim and bike were positives and the run was ok. Need to get faster there somehow.

Age Group: 0/17
Overall: 96/257
Performance: Average
I had myself finishing in 5:09 actual swim. Which was quite good. I had to slow down after 200 yards. I ended up passing two people in one 25 yard lap. Guy behind me was on my heels but had place to go. I probably can drop my seed time again by at least 2 or 3 seconds.
