Total Time = 1h 10m 49s
Overall Rank = 36/400?
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 1/31
Pre-race routine:

1st race since IMTX. Was excited to go out and race again. Up early with normal breakfast and off to race site. Setup transition and visited with folks
Event warmup:

Ran about 1 mile with some pickups.
Swim
  • 06m 5s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

Last wave to go so we sat around for a long time. My plan was to swim hard and see what I had. Usually I do my swim in a zone 2 effort so I wanted to test myself event though I hadn't swam more than 3 time in the last two months. Went hard and kept it were I felt like I was about ready to take a break.
What would you do differently?:

Back off the pace a little. I spent the first 3-4 miles on the bike trying to recover some from this effort
Transition 1
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

First time using the new shoes already clipped in. I like the heal strap on these much better. No problems
Bike
  • 36m 28s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 22.21 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a really hard time settling down into a comfortable pace after the swim. I spent a lot of time out of the aero bars trying to get my breathing under control. The 2nd lap was much better than the first.
What would you do differently?:

Left the water bottle sitting in the freezer so I rode without any water but it didn't seem to matter today. Focused on hydrating several days before knowing how hot it would be
Transition 2
  • 00m 29s
Comments:

Everything went well.
What would you do differently?:

Need to try and unbuckle helmet when running to rack
Run
  • 26m 44s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 08m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

I came into transition and there was one bike on the rack so I knew I had one guy to run down but wasn't sure how far ahead he was. Left transition running to fast and backed off to a pace that was more manageable. Saw the guy I needed to catch between mile 1.5-2 and caught up with him at the aide state at mile 2. We ran together for about quarter mile and then I started to pull away. I was excited to actually be able to run someone down since I don't consider myself a runner and usually I am just trying to hold off people.
Post race
Warm down:

Ice towel and lots of water

Nice job.

I didn't drink a lot on the bike but I can't imagine starting the run after not having anything to drink yet... It was hard enough as it was.
