Quite a few of the folks on here do this race regularly. It's one of the most difficult centuries in the region. Be prepared for lots of climbing. It is a great event and well run and organized

If the weather is nice and you are in good shape, it is a great ride.  If you are missing either, it can be a long day.  Just pace yourself on the first 3...the last few are harder and getting back to town is not a cake walk when you are done with the Gaps!

Great challenge.  I would jump in with both feet.

I did Hogpen/Jack's/Unicoi yesterday and I took a nice slap from Hogpen. First Gaps ride in, like, 5 years.. Nowhere to hide on that hill..

i actually see a lot of tri bikes on the front 3 gaps (nels, wolfpen, woody).  Have only been on the back 3 gaps (jacks, hogpen, ?)  a couple of times and actually saw only a few people total both times.  I would not get in aero on the downhills personally!!  I would shove it in 50/12 at the top and put my hands on the brakes have fun on all the downhills.  Most downhills do not have bad curves making a road set up necessary.  Unless you go down wolfpen the opposite direction from the race - which will not be the case on race day obviously.  Gearing would be more important than frame unless you are a 5+ wt/power ratio rider imho.
