Total Time = 1h 26m 22s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Clydesdales
Age Group Rank = 25/47
Pre-race routine:

Setup transition and wandered around. Got into my race clothes, made a pit stop and headed for the pool deck. Gu around 6:40
Event warmup:

Light stretching
Swim
  • 06m 47s
  • 350 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

Nervous before the start but once I hit the water I felt confident. Swam my stroke like I had trained and didn't try to force it. I passed 4 or so people and it wasn't difficult. Last 150 or so was a little more difficult and I was breathing every other stroke; body dropped too. Overall a good swim.
What would you do differently?:

Training should include more distance work, all of mine was n x 25 so my body was a little surprised.
Transition 1
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Jogged to my bike and got my gear on. I was halfway to the mount line when I realized my helmet wasn't buckled so I stopped and did it. Jogged my bike out and hopped on.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing other than buckling my helmet automatically. I never forget that so I assume it was the adrenaline. Maybe run faster in and out.
Bike
  • 39m 42s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.14 mile/hr
Comments:

Got into the shoes and up to speed no problem. Adrenaline and the swim had me pretty out of breath and it took me the first loop to get my legs back under me. Kept getting stuck behind a lady with roughly the same speed and I was afraid I'd get a drafting penalty so I pushed a little and got past her. Once my legs were back I felt really good on the bike. Took Gu at about mile 9 and got out of my shoes on the last straightaway.
What would you do differently?:

Train for more speed? I can do the distance no problem so the limiter now is power output.
Transition 2
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

Jogged my bike in and racked it; I've always walked before so that felt good. Socks gave me trouble but got them on and headed out.
What would you do differently?:

Something about the socks? Otherwise nothing.
Run
  • 37m 1s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

Training was 1:30 jog/1:30 walk and I held to that. Took me 1/2 the run to get my breath/legs back but in previous races I've NEVER gotten them back so that was a lovely surprise. Held to my plan and came in, for me, strong. Finished with plenty left in the tank while still exceeding my goals.
What would you do differently?:

Run harder. I had lots left but that's hindsight and I was just trying to follow through on a plan and prove to myself I could keep to a plan.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked over to D and Jonathan and sat down to rest. After a few minutes I got up and got some food, grabbed my gear and headed home for a nap. Then Captain America!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training technically, but I had an awesome race. Took 25 minutes off my previous time for this course and based on how I felt I probably could have made that an even 1/2 hour.

Event comments:

Some parking, marking and handling issues with the new management. But the course is good, the site is nice and I like the race.
