It's a place off Big Wood road, off of Hwy 64.

Go about 4-5 miles and on your right you will see a clearing, gravel and dirt, on the side of the road.  Find the dirt path/trail that leads down to the lake, there is a small beach area and folks used to meet there to swim.  But now I think most are meeting at Ebeneezer park/beach to swim.

I would be interested in this swim.  I have no OWS experience, but really would like to get some ows swims in as I hope to do the tri in wilmington in September.

Does it have to be Jordan Lake for you?   I know of several organised groups that go out every week on Falls Lake.

JollyRoger,

It doesn't have to be Jordan Lake for me, but as I live a few miles from there, JL would be the best.  Falls lake is approx an hours drive for me.

Hi frm-fat-2.

I think the above spot mention is great for getting used to open water.  Hugging the right side of the cove is great for confidence! ie stay to the right from starting point, basically you can stand up if water gets worrisome.  Feel free to send a personal email to me at this site and hopefully we can all coordinate a day that would work well for practice.

Does "b" look like the place?

Walkabout,

I am in after the next couple weeks.  I am doing Try the Quay and Rex.  After that I want to start doing OWS in preparation for the Wilmington Sprint.

There is also a group that swims on Sundays at Beaverdam Lake, upper end of Falls Lake.  we start the swim at 5:00pm, then run in the park, then have a big cookout.  You bring your food, I bring kayaks and charcoal.  Check out our group Facebook page by searching for Beaverdam OW Swim/Track/Triathlon Training Group.  We have swimmers of all abilities and generally swim from 20 minutes to 2 hours, it all depends on whos shows up and how far they want to go.  The group usually organizes in the grass between the boat ramp and the swim beach.

I would potentially be interested.  My calendar is filling up with tri obligations (group rides and runs, etc.) but I would join as I can.  And I live in Apex not too far away.

BTW, I'm new to the area, is OWS in Jordan Lake allowed or does it have to be done covertly?

Hello!

I would be interested in trying this before the Lake Royale Tri on Oct. 1st. Anyone have a swim scheduled in Lake Jordan?

Whatever time works for the group on Friday the 26th is good with me.  I can wrap up at work anytime after noon.

I could do Friday as well.  Might just bring the boat out and make an afternoon of it.  Any time after noon is good for me as well.

If I could choose, I would choose 2.  But I am fairly flexible.
