Total Time = 1h 14m 44s
Overall Rank = 46/336
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 11/31
Pre-race routine:

Breakfast was a cliff bar. Got to transition early and got a good spot next to my Team Aquaphor teammate.
Event warmup:

hopped into the water 5 min before the gun and swam about 100m. I felt pretty confident.
Swim
  • 15m 19s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 02s / 100 meters
Comments:

The worst swim of my triathlon career to date. I don't know what happened. Perhaps it was a combination of not being at the fitness level I would have liked, the altitude and the fact that the forest service was conducting a controlled burn right near the race sight resulting in a thick smokey haze right over the lake. Whatever the reason, I simply could not get enough air. This was the first time that I've ever been on the verge of a panic attack. I didn't settle into some sort of rhythm until nearly halfway through. Wow that totally sucked!
What would you do differently?:

I don't know. I am going to really rack up more OWS practice. I can't let something like this happen again.
Transition 1
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

A little slow because I was still reeling from the crappy swim. Also, for some reason the sizing band inside my helmet was set to the tightest setting and it took a few confused attempts at cramming my helmet on before I realized this and adjusted it.
What would you do differently?:

A am going to really practice S/B transitions now. I know I can get it closer to 1 min.
Bike
  • 31m 5s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 23.99 mile/hr
Comments:

I could definitely feel the 7500' altitude. 24mph average. I think it was a pretty good result considering...
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

I can do better. I should be in and out in 30-40 seconds. End of story.
What would you do differently?:

Practice x3
Run
  • 25m 8s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

Again, I definitely could feel the altitude. I should be hitting 7- 7:30'/miles.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I am going to spend some time trying to figure this out.

Event comments:

Despite the swim freak-out, I still beat my last sprint distance by 2 minutes - even with a longer swim. I'm always happy to be moving in the right direction. My next sprint distance goal is to go sub-1:10. I know I can do it.

I have done the MM Olympic and Half, doing the Olympic again in 2 weeks and can say with great certainty it's the alititude on the swim that's the killer. I had the exact same experience the first 2 times I raced up there. Since then, I am ready for it and pace accordingly, ie go easy at the strat to get settled.

That's reassuring - especially coming from you, Mr. Dunn! Thanks!
