Sadly, I'm out...   Not injured, just way under-trained.  That plus a recent week away on vacation gaining another 5 pounds sealed the deal.    good luck everyone!

Velo,

You seem to be the local expert, so a few questions for you:

1. Do I bother bringing the wife and boys' bikes?  Will they be able to move safely from the start area to the zoo and back, or do they have to take the trolley?

2. What is the best spot on the run to see a participant multiple times?

3. If you had to recommend one thing to do/see while over there, what would it be?  We will be getting to the expo around 1:30 - 2:00 Saturday, our hotel is in Coral Gables and we will be staying until 2-3 pm Monday.

Thanks,

Chris

I was doing fine until I started making sub-plans for the Monday after.  Then it hit home that I really am doing this.

This is my 1st time doing the Olympic - I have heard that there were problems in the past with tacks on the course?  Is this true?

Nervous as hell about this race!!

i think there is some discussion earlier in this thread about the tacks.  as i recall, some fools threw some on the course and people did flat - race director got it cleaned up quickly.

I'll be there representin' the islands of The Bahamas!  How well leaves something to be desired!  After the Chattanooga Waterfront Olympic I was all pumped up and registered for the international distance.  Then life got in the way and I haven't trained much, but I did an 8 miles bike and 1.5 mile brick today!  Hope to get two long rides in this weekend.  I know I won't do great but I figured I already dished out the big bucks may as well make the best of it!  Look for the Bahamian flag to find me and my entourage Cool

LOL - Chris...but...

Love it...!!!

Sorry for my delayed answer....been very busy...busy...like a bee....!!! LOL

About your questions:

1.- I really don't know if they will be allowed to use their bikes inside the Metro Zoo...but...maybe You should call them....just in case

2.- The best spot to see the participants multiple times during the run...it's along the path next to the Run Exit from Transition or Swim Exit....It's in this point that you will start your second lap or sprint to the Finish Line...

3.- If you are staying in the Coral Gables...You can take your kids to the Scince Museum...or to visit Viscaya...or...Go to the Sea Aquarium...at Key Biscayne...great beaches in that area...

4.- And you forgot the most important question....A good place for Carbo Load...We have a great/real Italian Restaurant relatively close to Race Area at the US-1, "Di Napoli" 11755 S. Dixie Hwy (US-1), Pinecrest, FL 33156  and  the best Pizza place "Antony's Coal Fired Pizza"...also at the US-1, 10205 S. Dixie Hwy (US-1), Miami, FL 33156...

Hope this help you....See ya soon...Good Luck...!!!!

i've never swam in a wetsuit!  I had a shorty when I was diving oh 10 years ago.  Might actually fit again lol.  Do people actually swim it wetsuit-less?  I know it will be cold...but might have to suck it up.

Lots of people swim without a wetsuit. I was debating about wearing one this year and mine is a sleeveless shorty.
