Subject: lift and then swim or swim and then lift?

I've been trying to incorporate core and swim specific weight training into my workout but wouldl like your opinion on which to do first?

What's your goal?  Generally, I would suggest doing the more 'important' work first.

Are you talking about back-to-back workouts, or AM / PM?

Personally to reduce the risk of injury I would swim first, it stretches your whole body and then hit the weights once you're nice and loose.

swim first, my form goes away if i get too tired in a swim and you always want to train with your best form

Not sure which is better, but I can most certainly say you shouldn't lift while you swim.

I would definately swim first. Swimming is all about form and technique. To try to develope that with heavy, tired arms would not be the best way to achieve that.

As others mentioned, swimming is so technique dependent that it's better to swim first.  There is something to swimming on tired arms, but that comes after learning to swim well in the first place. Also note that drills are largely performed early in the workout as opposed to later for that reason.

If I had a choice, I'd swim before lifting.  That being said, because of my schedule and logistics I often will lift early (6AM) and then swim after work (6PM).   

Actually, I find that lifting affects any workout that I do within 24 hours, be it swimming, biking or running, which is why I cut back on lifting during the race season.

You should probably swim first so you can hold form longer. I personally like to lift first b/c it forces me to focus more during the swim due to all the muscle failure going on. buts that's not a recommendation. That's just me.

If you're using muscles in both that are the same, I would suggest that you do your core & strengthening on another day entirely.  How about on a run day?  Then the order doesn't matter.

Jeez,

Answers like this just drive me crazy.  I don't lift at all and now a bad-a$$ swimmer like TJ says he lifts (not sure how often, just in off-season etc.) so now I want to maybe lift because I want to swim like TJ
