Regular  847    Akron |  Subject: IM Lake Placid 2012 -who else is in ? & other random stuffI volunteered this year and signed up for next year! Totally pumped and ready to go! Just a bummer it's so far out. I got the chance to do the swim loop, bike a loop and ran some of the course. Lake Placid will be my first full and next month will be my first 70.3 (first tri ever). I just purchased a new TT bike online as well. It will be here tomorrow. I'm excited that it's my first Carbon bike I will ever own (Scott contessa Plasma 2010 model). I'm staying at the Town and country inn. Just reserved it yesterday. Any advice or random thoughts for me the newbie? |

This will be my second IM and I've done a hand full of HIM distances. I haven't found a hotel yet so I guess I better get cracking on that. I'm not expert but my advise would be consistancy. Do the training and you'll get there and get through. Its a long but rewarding journey...Good Luck!! |

Made reservations at the High Peaks Resort in LP. Lots of great info on this years IM Lake Placid thread and in the race reports. Training for Wisconsin has been a fun journey and has made me realize how tough it is to just make it to the starting line. I agree with the stay consistant theory for training. |

I'm still trying to secure lodging, but haven't made any reservations yet. I'm super excited about LP. I am a HUGE Olympics fan and am so excited to be going to an Olympic town during an Olympic year ~ 2012 Summer games will be getting ready to start during that time!

I have a HIM in September and training has been coming along great for that. Should I take some time off afterwards before preparing for IMLP? I'd hate to lose this fitness, but I also don't want to burn out. Sounds like I better get a hotel soon! Do they sell out quick or something? |

Be prepared for a long hard hill running back into town off River Road. Take the bike leg conservative and you will be fine. If I would have changed anything in my run training I would have had long hil runl repeats which is a 1/2 mile max where I am from and that really isn't long enough for the climb back into town. Congrats on getting into Placid, it was an awesome experience and the volunteers and crowd support are the best I have been too. |

What an amazing experience and what a beautiful area. I can't imagine a more incredible setting. I road the bike course and loved it. It will be challenging (especially for a flat-lander like me), but certainly within reason. The long, slow elevation gain up 86 back to town was tough. I kept wondering if I had a flat or if a brake was dragging! Great time for the family too! I just can't tell you how much fun the whole family had and how excited I am to go back! |

I am thinking about taking a week off of work and going up to volunteer so I can sign up but am not sure if its financially worth it or if I should take my chances on signing up on the internet. But I got some time. Good luck to everyone who is scheduled to race next year. Hope you all have a solid year of training and remain injury free. |

Signed up for next year and have a goal of dropping 36 minutes off my time. A wetsuit legal swim would be nice in helping me to achieve this  ) The volunteers were absolutely the best!!! If you have not done this race before, you have A LOT to look forward to! |

I though I could swim a loop, ride a loop and get a feel for the course. It's a two day drive...but I think it will be worth while. I'll be tuning in for tips from everyone...good luck! |
