Looking to complete my third Oly in the last two years.  This will probably be my last try of the year so I am going to try to rock it.  I've done the Gateway Tri by the dam the last two years.

I'm heading up to Carlyle in a couple weeks to camp and work with a friend's open water swim.  Looking forward to the OWS, as I don't get a chance to practice it very much.

Just 2 weeks until race day.

I'm heading to Lake Carlyle tomorrow for a weekend family camping trip.  We're sharing a site with another friend and his family.  He and I are going to work on our open water swim.  I am going to try to get him to run the Gateway 10k course on Saturday.  I am trying to convince him to do the sprint race.

I drove the bike route and did a little open water swimming on Saturday.  I did most of my swimming at the Dam West Beach, but drove up to Keyesport in the p.m.  I was disappointed in the Keyesport beach.  While the water down south was choppy, the water at Keyesport was choppier.  I think the storm from that morning and the chop had washed a lot of debris onto the beach as well.    Hope it's cleaned up for race day.

I would expect that the chop won't be too bad early in the morning for the race start.

Transition area is close to the beach.  Up the hill and back down to a small parking lot.

Water temp at Carlyle Lake this afternoon was 81 degrees. Corps said if 78 is the legal temp (which it is) then definitely tell folks to pack their wetsuits cause it can easily be that by race morning!!! Very potential wetsuit legal race in August!!! Sweet!

I'm coming ready to swim without.

Current ACE temp report:

August17, 2011
Surface Temp80.38
