Total Time = 1h 15m 1s
Overall Rank = 2/51

Age Group Rank = 1/5
Pre-race routine:

Well for this event I stayed at the Ottawa Metro Park Campground and spent the night there. Woke up in the morning and headed over to packet pic up.
Event warmup:

Couple minutes on the bike, 7 minute light run.
Run
  • 12m 5s
  • 2 miles
  • 06m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran hard to keep up with faster runners. Went into T2 ~1.5min off the leader.

What would you do differently?:

Need to do more interval training in the future to get run time down.
Transition 1
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

shoes didn't go on very quickly
Bike
  • 40m 4s
  • 15 miles
  • 22.46 mile/hr
Comments:

Best bike split by 2:45 over second and 4:15 over third.
It was what I needed to do. I pushed as hard as I could because I knew the caliber of runners behind me. I took the lead 11min into the bike and tried to give myself a cushion.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more water. Use aero helmet.
Transition 2
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

Missed my transition spot and had to run back!
And there was a lady standing in front of my racking spot.
What would you do differently?:

Sight rack better.
Run
  • 21m 14s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

Fairly slow run for me.
Probably because I destroyed myself on the bike.
Tried to hold it together but couldn't.
Got passed in the final 200m and finished in second by under 10 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Mental toughness.
Post race
Warm down:

went back and ran the 5k with my girlfriend.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat and mental toughness. Needed to push through more pain.

Event comments:

Well run event. No water on T2 exit. Mile markers on the bike course would have been nice. Post race pizza and hamburgers were a nice touch. I'd definitely recommend this event.

Nice job at the race. From looking at your time you must be one of the two guys that past me with about 300 meters to go. You guys where really fighting it out.
