Age Group Rank = 36/39
Event warmup:

Stretching and a easy 5 min Jog
Swim
  • 26m 31s
  • 820 yards
  • 03m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

I knew this part was going to be tough due to the lack of training. I ended up doing 75% of the race on my back so I could breath. My legs were like jelly went I got out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

More training, More Training and some More Training. I have been looking for Masters swim team/clubs so I can join and get some kind of instructions.
Transition 1
  • 02m 59s
Comments:

No wetsuite so drying off and getting everything on was smooth.
Bike
  • 1h 24m
  • 16 miles
  • 11.43 mile/hr
Comments:

Being my first tri, I have not plunked a bunch of money into equipment so I used my mountain bike for the ride. Going forward I will be looking to purchase a low in road bike - Little steps :)

What would you do differently?:

I had road the course a couple of times prior to the event with my wife (She was doing the ride as part of a relay team) and when riding with her I was doing her pace and I felt like I could go much faster, but held back. Next time if I have chance to ride the course I will push the training to see just how much faster I can go.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

Got of the bike and walked down the hill to the transition area, felt like I had to throw up... :( Got the bike racked and continued to walk out of transition.
Run
  • 43m 57s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 14m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Walked for about a half mile to get my legs under me. I started to run and right away my hamstrings cramped up and I had to walk stiff legged till they lossened up. I thne start to run again and them my quads cramped. I was so upset I was feelling so much better from walk and my legs would not cooperate.
What would you do differently?:

I think it was a combination of the day the tough swim taking my legs away and then the hilly bike just took my legs away totally.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around before going to get my stuff out of the empty transition area.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training.

Event comments:

I did not do any post race activities.

Nice job on your first race. I found that being consistant in training was the key for me. Get out there and keep it up, and you'll keep improving. Keep up the great work!

Way to hang in there.  That's a tough sprint course, especially on a warm day like it was. That hill coming off the bike is a killer.  Keep up the training, you're on your way now!
