So who's getting excited?  Who is thinking about racing in our own backyard?

I'd so love to, but I'm thinking volunteering may be a better option for me at this stage.

What exactly does the volunteering involve? how do you get in to it? I saw a thread on the general forum about this and said I may think of going to watch as I'm not quite up to IM standard yet but volunteering sounds better - that way I get to be a part of the race too.

Think they will be after volunteers on the website after the details are all worked out.  Volunteering can mean a variety of jobs, and depends on how much time you commit to it.  One job might be doing markings in the morning, helping out in the change tents at T1 and T2, being a 'catcher' at the finish line (this is a great job to get if you can, you get to be part of the excitement of finishing) and various other things during the day.  Some of the roles such as manning the drink stations will go to community groups to raise money for themselves for providing the volunteers for these specific roles so you may want to see if there are any groups that get called on that you may be able to help out, as well as helping out at the IM.

How exciting is it! I will no way be able to do it for 2012 but 2013 could be a thought. I'm planning on volunteering too, Casie. It will be so much fun. I plan to stay til the very end :-)

Thanks for answering for me Joe!

Suzie I volunteered at Run Melbourne. I got my entry in late and basically was looking after the athletes at the start of the course, designating the wave starts and answering general athlete questions like where's the bathroom. It was a great vibe and I actually felt useful.

I think the finish line and drink stations were first to go!

I'm hoping to look at something close to the finish line as it's closer to where I live. Likewise Tammy I'd like to stay to the end. I know what it feels like to finish in the dark!!

That sounds cool Casie. I'll see what happens. I need to decide whether I want to try another tri of my own - mini-sprint or sprint depending how the first one on Nov 6 goes or help the really tough people with theirs, lol. I'm kind of leaning towards the latter because I can still do another tri myself a week later.

Look out for the crazy girls on the CCTS station. That'll be us

Been asked to be part of the technical team (decided competing it might be pushing it a bit too far with my recent history of achilles injuries), so I know on the bike leg at least you'll all be keeping an eye (and an ear) out for me

Best of luck to everyone competing this coming weekend!!!  I hope it's a fantastic day!

I got to visit Melbourne for a couple weeks just about a year ago and fell in love with the area.  I'm hoping to find some coverage of the race here in the US.

OMG such a big day - apologies to not shouting out to everyone!  I saw Yanti and gave her some encouragement at my AID station without knowing it was her - she wasn't looking positive and I'm saying you can do it etc!

Anyway - I was on the Special Needs Bike station so if you had a bag I hope you got it!  I had the honour of handing Crowie his bag and he was politeness in itself and thanked me heartily.  (some of the front running age groupers far from polite!!!)

Anyway - what a day, got home at 1am - my friend finished in 16.18.  cold dark lonely run up Beach Road!

Next year - look out for me I'm so having to do this one!

OMG yesterday was amazing.

CCTS was aid station four, I had a bright blue wig on, and some of the guys were superheros, others dressed up as Tigger and Buzz Lightyear. Please tell me you saw us!!

My boy finished in 12hour 27. He was simply amazing.

He is a mess now, because he hardly trained (yeah I know, jealous, wish I could pull stuff like THAT out of my butt!!) but it was an amazing day.

Another CCTS athlete finished second in her AG and is going to Kona SO EXCITED she did a 9.59.

Can't wait for next year when my friend Anna does her first. And my boy is gonna go for gold and train properly for next year. I want to see what he's made of!

Absolutely amazing, spectacular exciting day. I had so much fun. I'm exhausted today and I only did the swim and volunteered. Volunteering at an aid station is a buzz and the finish line was out of this world. I got to run through the finish Shute with my team....what a blast. I felt like a rock star. There is nothing like it. I can only begin to imagine the feeling of running through that after completing the whole thing. Oh, it's gonna take me days to come down from this...

I had an awesome day at the finish line! So proud of you Tammie & Nigel! And everyone else who had their moment up the chute. It was interesting from a volunteers perspective, we copped quite a bit of a spray from some family & friends with regards to the timing/lost property/finding athletes who had finished (not wholly our department). I think there might be a few emails to the race directors, that said even the guys & gals who didn't need our help were thankful of our time and that's what matters. It makes me want to compete next year...
