So many years of catching double headers in select ball. I'm probably in the minority however. Me too! Grew up in Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Kansas and Missouri. Lived in St. Louis before moving to Houston and I have ZERO desire to live anywhere with a real winter ever again. Ken is from central NY and thankfully feels the same way. Hey Keri I think I rode with your husband Ken a couple of weeks ago on Fry Rd. We chated all the way to logenbaugh. I u-turned to head back north on Fry and he was going to head to the Y to pick up kids from swim. He was on his road bike since his tri bike was in the shop. Cool dude. Wondering is if you guys ride on Fry much, mayebe group ride someday. I am always on that road, as much as I hate it, it's quick and easy to get to.
Yep, that was Ken, you should try to find us at Bridgeland. How old are your girls? Ours are 9, 7 & 4. There's another gal in the new CyTri group that also has 3 girls 9, 7 & 5. We ride Fry pretty often, Ken is out there twice a week during the week and that is part of his longer ride on Saturday or Sunday. I'm usually out there twice a week this time of year. With one of the girls on swim team our long bike rides are on Sundays. Edited by KeriKadi 2011-08-04 10:20 PM |

I saw the transition setup this afternoon when I took the girls to the pool up front and it is much bigger and better than the last two years. Going to be a blast! |

I also rode my bike to work yesterday (20 mi each way), but I won't touch my bike Dec through Feb. |

My rule of thumb is I will not bike in temps below my age - LOL Funny, I look at it differently. Having just done IMTX. From the day it was announced, people were complaining about a May race in Houston and the heat. Yes, it was hot (but we did get lucky with the overcast skies). But I would so rather train through the winter. I did a crazy amount of long trainer rides. Think the longest was 5 hours. Netflix and a big box fan made it tolerable. I still did the majority of my running outside unless it was wet or icy out. When the temps warmed up I was outside trying to acclimate the best I could. In the end I did not have any trouble with the heat on race day. But, say I was doing IMWI, I cannot imagine training in this heat. The thought of a 6-7 hour ride or 3 hour run in 105+ is not pleasant. |

Works for our weather preferences and parenting. Not sure how we would juggle 5 kids with 2 parents training for HIMs.

Expert 989 Broomfield, CO | Subject: RE: Raise you hand if you are over this &^%^*& heatwave This was my reasoning for doing IMTX in '12. Train all winter and into the Spring as it starts to warm up. Sounded like a solid plan. Then for the rest of the spring and summer train for and do sprints and maybe an OLY. Training now for a Fall event seemed like a big Sufferfest and I wasn't interested in that. Keri what HIM are you doing in the Fall. I'm doing Longhorn in OCT. |

Oh and Momma always taught me to be polite to ladies. Daddy is full of sarcasm however. So I come by it honestly. |

Pro 4824 Houston | Subject: RE: Raise you hand if you are over this &^%^*& heatwave Yep, you guys are both doing Austin and I am doing Oil Man first weekend in November. I am trying to decide if I am doing RunGirl or The Woodlands half. RunGirl is closer to Oil Man so I'd have that fitness. On the other hand RunGirl is closer to Oil Man and I may still be recovering. Ken will be doing Lone Star again in the spring. We have talked about doing Redman in 2012 though so we might break our - no two HIMs at the same time rule. |

Member 29 Cypress | Subject: RE: Raise you hand if you are over this &^%^*& heatwave I did about 25 miles on the bike Wednesday around 11am than went to run 4 miles after and after 2.5 had to stop and walk with severe hamstring cramps. Needless to say the heat sure catches up with you when not flying on the bike Hopefully Bridgeland will be a little better since it's earlier than what I was training with. Just give me temps from the NW 55-75 and I'm happy! |

Sure 102 is better than 108 but it still sucks. I work from home and lately I feel like a prisoner. I used to so look forward to my afternoon runs or bikes. It got me out of the house. Now, I do my boot camp or run at 5:30am and after work watch TV until I want to claw my own eyes out. You can only walk through Target or go to Barnes and Noble and sit and read magazines so often. Monday I am going to work at Pannera Bread or Starbucks or anyplace with free wifi for a change of scenery but I can do that because I don't have any calls to deal with. This sucks. |

New user 49 Houston, TX | Subject: RE: Raise you hand if you are over this &^%^*& heatwave I'll raise my hand to that. What I've always wondered since I've moved down here is why do event sponsors, knowing it will be blazing hot in July and August, still continue to have events then. Why are events not in the early spring or late fall here? I know there are a few, but everything seems to die off after September. |

Lonestar is in April and Oil Man is in November, both HIM distance races. They continue to do them because they continue to sell out. If OUM can put on a great race the first weekend in August and sell out why not? It's our choice whether we avoid June-September but I for one love that we can race nearly year round. |
