Pre-race routine:

Drove to Indy. Set up transition, hit the can.
Event warmup:

Light jogging to the swim start.
Swim
  • 26m 25s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nothing too much to say. Felt like there was a little bit of current against us, and the distances must be off, because otherwise I did the first 1000 Meters in 15:19 and the next 500 in 10:10, or there was a current or something else affecting us quite a bit in one part and not the other.
Transition 1
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

A little slow. Didn't mess around much, but had a little trouble with one shoe and getting my helmet secured.
Bike
  • 1h 08m 35s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.74 mile/hr
Comments:

There were some very rough sections, and rough railroad tracks we crossed twice. Other times we were crossing roads that were under construction, so some big bumps there too. One time managed to knock my second water bottle out of its cage and onto the roadway, hence why my hydration was not what it should have been. Aside from that, still held a pace I am very happy with. Incredibly flat course, which was nice, although it also means no breaks. Handlebars got rotated slightly a couple times on some of the bumps, but I was able to fix it while riding.
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Got feet on top of the shoes way early (wasn't really sure where dismount was, just knew where the turn off was after the second loop. Got close to the dismount line and someone cut in front of me and I wasn't comfortable attempting the flying dismount so I just stopped and hopped off regularly.
Run
  • 58m 32s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Died after 2 miles. Legs were not giving anymore. I must have looked like crap, because a few volunteers kept asking if I was alright. I didn't feel that bad (although I did feel close to puking a few times). Just didn't have any energy in the legs at this point. Going to blame an all day session outside and on my feet yesterday for that. Was happy I was able to hammer the bike at least.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of fluids. Definitely was dehydrated, and I think I started off that way too.

Thanks.  Wish I hadn't died on the run.  I don't blame it on the bike though.  I was outside in the sun all day yesterday and on my feet, and was dehydrated this morning because of it (and partly sunburnt).  I'm sure that all impacted my endurance and run abilities today.  Unavoidable, but at least I know what not to do the day before a race now!

Excellent performance. Especially considering you were dehydrated and out of gas. I know the feeling, but you still put in an amazing performance. Sounds like the run course was fun too. Keep up the good work.
