Pre-race routine:

Usual stuff
Swim
  • 10m 20s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was the worst swim for me in over 3 years. I have no idea why I was this slow. I think I really didn't focus during the swim, and I never really felt my mojo. I just felt "off", but I was shocked at how slow I swam, given that my usual 800m time is sub 9-minute. While I wouldn't have placed regardless, I would have beaten 1:10 if I had turned in even an average swim performance. Just goes to show that any given day, you can slip up.
What would you do differently?:

The best thing is that I will certainly refocus my training for my next triathlon.
Transition 1
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

Stumbled a bit in the transition, took too long getting socks on. Otherwise, about average.
Bike
  • 34m 16s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 21.76 mile/hr
Comments:

Best bike of the year. The course was rough, but SO flat. I fact, the bike was so flat, that it made me even more mad that the swim (usually my strongest discipline) was so weak.
What would you do differently?:

Nada.
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on pedaling with feet out of shoes. That would be about it.
Run
  • 23m 48s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt better about the run, and had enough time/distance to get back into my usual running rhythm.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mentally I looked past the swim, which cost me. Just goes to show that you have to be mentally focused in all parts of the race to do well. Even your best discipline requires focus while you're doing it, or you end up letting yourself down.

Event comments:

Good race, especially given the fact that between the Oly, Sprint and Du, there were 1400 racers. The only tidbit I would give to those looking to do this race in the future, would be to avoid the Comfort In n the website recommends. It is a total dump.
