I have two oly races coming up. one this Saturday and the next in two week. The first one has a very hill bike and a flat run.  one of the hill on this bike is about 12% grade for 1/2 mile.I have been training for this race. The race in two weeks has a flat bike and a very hilly run. the run is eather up or down no flats.

How do you get set up for the second race. a small recover and a week taper in to the race does not give me much time to work on running hills. Do I just not worry about it and just go for it when it comes.

The second race in on a town 300 miles away. I just happen to have to go to that town for work a week ago and did the bike and run course to see what it was like.

Not much you can do in two weeks, especially since you have to recover from the first race.   Might also depends on which race you really want to do good on.

You can take it easy the first race and use it as training for the second or you can do the opposite.

You should probably just go for it and see what happens. Good luck at the races!

Here's what I would do when racing events close together (this depends on your ability to recover, how long you need to taper, etc):

Su - race with light ride in the afternoon
M - swim and maybe a ride
Tu - easy run, maybe a ride with a few short, harder efforts
W - Tu - back to normal training
W - easy swim with a few race effort pickups, easy run
Th - easy ride with a few race effort pickups, easy run
F - off
Sa - prerace workouts at the venue
Su - race

I wouldn't worry about doing anything to prepare for hills; if you've run hills in your training then you should be good to go, just slower than for a flatter run.

Is one, both or neither an "A" race for you?

I had an OLY and Escape from Alcatraz 8 days apart. The OLY is local and Alcatraz wasn't. I knew I would do the local one again and probably never do Alcatraz again. My plan was to Race the OLY and do Alcatraz. I think it's hard to focus, peak and be successful for both races. Pick one race that means more to you and race it!

It should actually be pretty easy for an athlete who is in decent shape to peak for both races; generally a fitness peak can be maintained for 3-6 weeks depending on the athlete so if the athlete plans to peak for the first race, they should be able to recover, do a few workouts between and still be in great shape for the second.

I agree that someone could peak for both races. I personally wouldn't plan two "A" races two weeks apart and expect to nail them both.
