5150 Triathlon Series

Total Time = 2h 32m 30s
Overall Rank = 344/3000+
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 70/392
Pre-race routine:

Routine, really? We drove from Staten Island to Riverside at 4 in the morning through rain to find a parking place in the dark. Then had to walk a half mile to get to transition. Just tried to get everything set up in the rain before they kicked us out of transition. The best part of it was my location. Right on the end of the rack with plenty of space to negotiate the transitions.
Event warmup:

Walking over a mile to the swim start.
Swim
  • 18m 56s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 09s / 100 yards
Transition 1
  • 03m 56s
Comments:

Transition was a long way from swim exit. Otherwise, my transition was pretty quick. Getting started on the bike was tricky in the park: narrow paths and steep climb to the highway.
Bike
  • 1h 17m 35s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.22 mile/hr
Comments:

Used a road bike rental without aerobars and it wasn't a good fit either. Back hurt early in the race. Missed my P2.
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

Good transition overall.
Run
  • 50m 26s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Post race
Warm down:

Sat in the shower mister for a good 5 minutes. I know I pushed the race as I had at least 2 different people (strangers) say to me, "Are you okay?" Obviously, I was feeling and looking a little rough.

Age Group: 47/392
Overall: 387/3000+
Performance: Good
Suit: Xterra
Course: Straight point to point swim, with the current along the seawall. It was a great swim except for the other racers who I had to go around. Goggles fogged up so that was a pain, but otherwise, I had a good solid and fun swim. Motoring along at less than 1:10/100m was AWESOME!

Course: Some people stated the wind was "strong". They obviously have not done an Iowa tri. The 9-10 mph variable winds that were mostly blocked by the buildings, trees, and hills were nothing compared to unadulterated 20mph winds (with 30 mph gusts). Could feel the wind on the bridges and some open parts but mostly not bad.

The run hurt, but with all the spectators and running in central park, it was a great experience. My knee hurt after about 4 miles, and still hurts one day later. Venue for the run was excellent. My personal run was not so excellent.
