The alternative is that I start you guys first, you run into the sprinters on the swim and then on the bike it's so crowded you can barely move. Which would you choose? Tough spot but by then it'll be cooler for a high temp even though it will still be hot and ultimately it's 30 minutes difference which ultimately means it's about equal temp wise to what people just did at clear lake and you're still going to be done sooner because the course is shorter than that.

Oh and I know what I said before about the sprint going first but things change. That's why we put subject to change on our materials as we are constantly working to accommodate many different entities involved. I've witnessed two events, one was this weekend at the Chicago triathlon, in which they did it this way and it worked GREAT. I know it's hotter in Texas but the heat is something people are used to for the most part and I'm sure they'd rather have 5 extra degrees than have their times way slower because of congestion.

What do you expect the mix of olympic vs Sprint competitors to be?

When you say "All olympic distance age group swim waves will begin at 7:50am." does that mean one  big wave, or many.. meaning some won't leave till 8:30?

60/40 split of about 900 to 600 athletes the 900 being the olympic if we sellout at 1500. We're just over 1,100 now. Realistically we'll hit 1350-1400 I think. 7:50 is when the oly starts. USAT rules say I can't have a wave of over 150 people. As stated in the email we are going to try to keep waves to 100 or less if possible. 4 minutes in between means we'll have about 9 waves total at most. That's 36 min after the start. Puts the last wave in at 8:26 and that's IF we sellout at 1500 and the ratio stays the same. Odds are it'll end up 50/50 with 100 less athletes at 1400.

I guess I was thinking the sprinters could wait until the Oly swim was over. I was not at Clear Lake this weekend but I heard the sprint swim went off first and it was a mess in transition with sprint bikers and oly swimmers coming in at the same time.

I'm sure you've looked at this and worked the numbers I just thought we were going first and was looking forward to not being last in the water.

Someone had asked if it was possible to do the sprint instead of the oly that they signed up for?

My wife emailed [email protected] about the same thing and was told they could do it.

Aaron might have a better option.

Keri,

The course maps are pretty much set. Although being last minute as it all is they are still subject to change. I have posted the swim and the bike. They are crude based on the maps you've come to expect from us but I'm working on getting the beautiful stand up map boards done we usually have for you guys. It's in the works. The maps that are up are the placeholders. I have the swim and bike on the site now, the run maps will have to be tomorrow. Run's pretty much the same as last year if you remember. The swim is two loops (ITU Style) again for the oly. 1 loop for the sprint. This year (as of now) we're doing the swim North and South to avoid the sun being in your eyes like last year. Other than that it's the same. Transition is still in the Lone Star parking lot so we're talking about a 1/4 mile run back to your bike so bring some junk shoes to put by swim exit to run back in. Maybe next year transition will move to the field. Too dry this year, the dirt is sinking and really dusty.

The bike is a all right turn loop that's 1/3 on closed roads. At the top of the course Tuckerton will be an out and back 2 U-turn area but it's about 2 miles on each section (6 miles total) so it gives you an opportunity to really hammer between those U-turns. That's where we get the extra miles in. Having an out and back section in your bike is essential to be sure your distances are correct. Besides that out and back section it's a true loop and bikers will be in the right lane and also have the shoulder. Right now there's about a 1/4 mile section through the neighborhoods to connect back to Barker Cypress. They are pouring Tuckerton right now all the way through. Fingers crossed it's done before the race and that will eliminate about 4 turns going through the neighborhoods, and a BUNCH of headaches for us on the planning side of it. Plus it will make it easier on you guys just being able to go straight all the way down Tuckerton to Barker Cypress to finish your sprint loop or start your second oly loop.

More to come... Thanks! Oh remember the site is either www.Onurmark.net or www.HoustonTri.com.

A group of us just did the swim and bike coarse today at Town Lake. The swim was great, lake was actually nice and clear compared to others. The bike coarse rocked also. Can't wait for for the actual race. Aaron, I think you rolled up there today while we were swimming. Saw your truck parked behind ours. I think you were running with someone else as we were rolling out on the bike.

Come on out to our Houston Tri Clinic on Sunday September 18th starting at 8am. You'll get to swim the course and run most of the course as well. We'll walk you through transition and you can practice your mount, dismount and T1/T2. We'll have fluids and snacks. Some lifeguards and kayaks will be on duty as well for your safety. TJ from swim shops will be there to talk about first time open water swimming as well as give some advice to those of you that have been doing the sport a while. It's a great way to get a sneak peak at the course and have a Q&A with the race committee. Signup is $20 and can be found through normal registration at www.HoustonTri.com. Thanks!

Yeah but it'll be $5 more. We want to eliminate the paperwork and hassle on clinic morning but yes we'll take registrations for the swim and run on Sunday. Please signup prior online if you can.

Sorry about the delay getting the nicer map up folks. I finished it yesterday. It's a art file with all the course maps in one. Be sure to zoom in to see different parts of it better. We've also posted an updated participant list (minus number and wave assignments) and the wave start times and colors. Go to www.HoustonTri.com and click on the links under the slideshow to check it all out. Thanks!

Hey guys! As of now we only have 24 olympic course spots and 82 sprint course spots left. Just wanted to make everyone aware. I know you have all registered but others you know and others reading this may not have yet. Please let them know. We will have a waiting list once we reach sellout later this week. Thanks!
