Pre-race routine:

Got up at the Fairfield Inn around 5:30 and took a shower. I ate a bagel with PP, a banana and a small OJ. right before the race I had one more banana.
I prerode the course the day before which was kind of a mistake. It's roughly 1100 ft of climbing each loop and it took a little out of me. I tried to ride it real slow but it's still tough.
Event warmup:

Just a quick 200yd swim
Swim
  • 22m 43s
  • 1320 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim went ok for the first race of the year. My shorty pulls way too hard on my traps. Will wear a full suit next time.
What would you do differently?:

Were my full suit next time
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

The transition went well except for putting on my gloves. I only used gloves because it was raining and the course is fairly technical.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Bike
  • 1h 29m 38s
  • 12.28 miles
  • 8.22 mile/hr
Comments:

The course is awesome but really hard. It seems like all you do is climb!
The trails are very well marked and packed down. Fun ride once you get to the screaming downhill.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Very fast transition... I don't know the time, but it was under a minute.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing... oh, take a gel or two as there wasn't an aid station that had them the entire run.
Run
  • 37m 7s
  • 4.92 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

The cramps didn't start until the last mile. The year before they started at the first hill. Much better!
What would you do differently?:

Take a gel at the end of the bike so it has time to kick in during the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training... the fact that I didn't taper and have the Timberman half Ironman in two weeks. I would have gone all out if I didn't.

At the end, I couldn't see anyone in front of me or behind me so I would have needed to be a lot faster to catch the next closest person.

The guy that came in before me was 2.5 minutes faster and the guy after me was a 1:10 behind.
Will have to work to cut those minutes!

Event comments:

Great race... will continue to do it each year!
