This x1000. Its jarring to have so much free time all of the sudden. I come home from work, eat dinner and go "..now what?"

I'm sticking by my plan of 1 full week totally off (might do a yoga session over the weekend) then 1 week of light workouts (basically a regular rest week). After that I will try to add some speed for my Lake George HIM over Labor Day Weekend before ending the tri season at HITS (either sprint or Oly, haven't decided) 3 weeks later. I'm dying to showcase what I believe is the best run fitness of my life (hard to do that at Lake Placid obviously lol), so I'll be looking for some HMs, possibly a full marathon before shutting it down totally. Then its time to start training for IMLP 2013!

Jeremy,

That, my friend, is the best video I've ever seen. What a terrific job-on the race, on the video and well....all I can say is 'well done'!!!!

Britt's stats are out on 2012 IMLP. I love to look at the numbers but a few things jumped out at me:

25% of pro women DNF'd (11% of all athlete's DNF)

the average time was 29 minutes slower than 2011-with most of that coming on the bike (I knew it was windier on the second lap and sapped my energy-nice to have confirmation of this)

http://www.runtri.com/2012/07/ironman-lake-placid-2012-results.html

Much tougher race in 2012 than 2011 by numbers...

Whos the jerk at 13:03 who threw their bike at the volunteer? I would've let it hit the ground and said nope.

I understand what you're saying but those volunteers were NOT in the right area.  They need to be getting those bikes immediately after they get off them.

Its a bit of a drive but its real nice.  We stayed here for 1 week and just drove for 30mins.  If you have family coming that drives this is a great place to stay. adkviews.com
If not stay around town for walkable distance to transition and the kids can rests in between.

My family and I stayed in a rental house in Wilmington near the Hazzelton out and back. Great house and away from the LP craziness.  Three bedrooms and a loft...

Let me know if you are interested in the owners contact info.  My family waited for me at the out and back then made there way into LP without much aggrevation!

Good luck!

I should probably ask this in the training thread...but since people are still posting here I thought Id try to help push it toward 200 pages Laughing

Im really weak on the bike and was wondering if any of you had advice. When Im riding I have a really hard time keeping my heart rate above 105-110 bpm. I think my avg was 104 in Placid, and thats about what it was on my long rides. If I go hard enough to raise my heart rate my legs are toast. Is this just a lack of leg Strength? Its gotta be right?

Always stay at Art Devlins and never disappointed.  A short walk to everything, and the rates are the most reasonable in town.  The rooms are newly remodeled, the staff is friendly, and they are keeping the rates the same for next year.

I always thought the idea was to be fit enought to keep your heart rate down and not to crank it up. I know I ride around 145-155 bpm and when I climb I have to slow down to keep my hr below 170bms.  Are you confusing hr with cadence? Cadence you want high but never your heart rate.

No, I understand that a low heart rate is good...but I cant get out of my own way at 105 bpm. (I think I averaged 15.25 mph.) But when I try to go faster, and heart rate gets up in the 120 range...my legs cant handle it.  I run in the 130-140 bpm range, so its not like I have some crazy low heart rate. Seems like it has to be lack of leg strength, but im not sure. Guess Ill try a strength program and ride more hills and see what happens!

Any advice on gearing? I rode the course on my 12-25, with standard crank up front. Would have liked one more gear for the climbs. I've got 11-26 on my race wheels...would throwing a compact crank be over kill?

Stayed at High Peaks Resort.

It was good. Good food in the hotel restaurant (Dancing Bears), good staff and the hotel is very close to the action.

I would stay there if I'll come back one day

First week-end post-IM. I slept in both Saturday AND Sunday I forgot how it was to not setup an alarm clock during the week-end

Back in the swimming pool tomorrow...
