Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/18
Pre-race routine:

We stayed the night on the island at a friend's beach house.
Event warmup:

Set up T1 and then got a ride to T2. Set that up, used the PoP and then waited for the race to start.
Swim
  • 14m 23s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well, I guess I started swim training too late in the year to have an impact on this race. I was 2 seconds faster than last year. I felt good when I got out of the water. I can't complain too much about this swim...
What would you do differently?:

I am going to keep swimming lots and will expect to improve for next year.
Transition 1
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

So, I have screwed this transition up every time I have done this race. My goal here was to be smooth and not mess up. I am happy to report that I made it out on the bike with no incident. Next year I will be faster.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster...
Bike
  • 54m
  • 19.5 miles
  • 21.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Very pleased with my bike ride. Passed tons of people and was not passed at all. Stayed aero the whole time. I had gatorade to drink and it was terrible...it was way too thick and I was so thirsty the whole time. I am going to use water in my next race and see how that works.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster and push the pace more.
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

This is a guess at T2 time. The timing was messed up and the bike time included T2. This was a quick and easy transition. I passed 1 guy in transition and didn't see him again.
What would you do differently?:

nothing..
Run
  • 22m 31s
  • 3.8 miles
  • 05m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a great run. I passed one guy at the 1 mile mark. He had a beastly bike ride. I ran the next 2 miles by myself. With .8 to go, I caught sight of someone ahead. I decided to try to catch him. I caught him right before the turn back into the park. After I passed him I kicked hard all the way to the finish and beat him by 6 seconds. I was so thrilled!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Played at the park with my kids and waited for the awards ceremony.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my only gripe on the day was my average swim.

Event comments:

I love this race. It is inexpensive, well organized and they have great awards and swag. I am happy to have finished 4th this year. Last year I was 10th and was hoping to crack the top 5 this year. Next year I will be in the top 3. Oh yeah, I won a bottle of wine that I gave to Chris and Angie as a thank you for letting us crash their place.
