Pre-race routine:

Woke up at about 4-50. Had a PB&J bagel and a cup of coffe. Got loaded up and got the family up and loaded to go. Got to the venue at about 6-10. Got my transistion set up and got down to the swim area to get a starting spot.
Event warmup:

Getting up and moving and jitters.
Swim
  • 08m 1s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Pretty good swim overall. Got a way better start than last year and only got held up in traffic 2-3 times. Was able to groove a bit and felt good. Rounding the first bouy was slow as I got stuck in a group.
What would you do differently?:

Train more and start a tad earlier.
Transition 1
  • 03m 26s
Comments:

I'm improving here, but still a bit slow.
What would you do differently?:

Just sit on the ground right away to get my shoes on.
Bike
  • 39m 11s
  • 13.67 miles
  • 20.93 mile/hr
Comments:

OK bike leg. I would have liked to been a bit faster as I hit over 21 last year, but the wind contributed to slowing me down. At least the handfull of guys that passed me were on high-zoot aero bikes with zipps and disks.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep riding.
Transition 2
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

Did fairly well here. Again a little fumble with the shoes but not too bad. Didn;t forget anything and got out ok. Transition area is very large.
What would you do differently?:

Practice a bit more.
Run
  • 24m 59s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

My biggest improvement by far. This was my fastest 5k ever in competition and that includes stand alone 5k runs. It was great to have my training really pay off here because I have been working really hard on my run.
What would you do differently?:

Keep up with my training and focus!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, Had some orange slices and a couple cookies. Hung out with my family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just training. I'm very pleased with my progress though. I took over 6 minutes off my time from last year.

Event comments:

A very good overall event. Well planned and executed. All went right on time. Pleant of volunteers and police at every corner to keep everyone safe. For its size, it was very very well run. I would recommend for anyone looking for a large fun sprint event.

Course: 2 laps on closed streets. Little in the way of hills. It was a bit windy and that had an effect. No problems with passing. Most roads in good shape except for 75th street that had expansion cracks every 8-10 feet. The wind caused me to gear down a cog on quite a long stretch of the course so that had a small affect on my time.
