Pre-race routine:

I was really tired going into the race. So, I did not know what to expect. Loaded the car the night before, so getting out was easy. Egg, toast, coffee.

I got there with plenty of time. I got my number, setup my transition, and hung out with Bethany, John, McQ, others.
Event warmup:

None. Mistake?
Swim
  • 07m 48s
  • 586 yards
  • 01m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nice swim. I stayed relaxed, but went hard for the first 200 yards. I stayed with the pack and passed a few people. Sighting was ok. I did not push this swim.
What would you do differently?:

I need to build some gym strength in the off season. The speed will follow.
Transition 1
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

5th fastest in my AG. My speed suite got hung up on my timing chip and cost me a few seconds. I had a problem getting the helmet on which has never happened. I did have the shoes on the bike and it worked well. I had the worst T location for the bike transition. I had to run a long way with the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Just move a little quicker
Bike
  • 35m 10s
  • 14 miles
  • 23.89 mile/hr
Comments:

The no pass zone was frustrating because there was a very slow rider that held us up. I took my time getting through the hood. I really do not like that section for some reason. I settled in and started to hammer. I passed a ton of people, but got smoked by a few people. The best part was being able to relax and accelerate when ever I wanted. Miles passed very quickly with out any stress or slow points.

I was nervious about jumping off the tri bike for the first time. Got my feet out and got ready in the no pass zone. Slowed down more than normal at the line and jumped off fine.
What would you do differently?:

This is by far my fastest split in a sprint. So, I am not going to question it. The only thing was not drinking during the ride. I need to get my tri bar water bottle setup. It will be perfect for shorter races.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

I am not sure what went wrong, but this was a very slow T for me. I should have been around 1 min. I really do not know what happened. I think it was having to run with the bike so far. I think that slowed me down.
What would you do differently?:

I need to rack and get my shoes on faster. I sat down to put them on! Don't tell Dan A....
Run
  • 27m 7s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

I could not get the legs to turn over....then my form went to shit. If I would have just run what I know I can do...I would have been 4th. Ugh.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure...keep training.
Post race
Warm down:

None. Drank some water and ate some. talked with a ton of people. First time I was able to spend some time with the ATCers. Again, McQ is a great race buddy. He gave me some line of crap about not a great day, poor me, then results come out and he finished 3rd in AG! It was a strong AG, so he earned that spot. Sand bagger of the day award for McQ!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I only started to train serious again about 30 days ago. So, I did well for the amount of training.

Event comments:

I always enjoy this race.

McSandbagger?

Nice race! You really crushed the swim and bike, man! Get that run going and you're going to be taking home hardware!

Nice job!

You looked great on the bike! And as always, your swim is strong! Our transition spot did suck though......Good race!

Nice race.

The run in a sprint is a crap shoot.  You've got to go hard on the bike and just hope you have barely enough left in the tank to haul butt for 3.1 miles.
