Subject: Texas Economy

The other day someone posted in the rick perry thread an article for why it's not just oil that is driving the Texas Economy.  The Rick Perry thread has been removed for some reason, and I would like to read that article.  Could whoever posted it re-post it again please.  I've got a speech to write for a convention in November about the state and future of the Texas Economy.  Sometimes articles like that help point me to different sources.  Thanks

Look, demographics always tell the story - what is the inflow versus outgo of Texas over the next 10 years?   Answer that and you will have all you need to know to point out Texas will outpace the nation economically in the next decade and more.

I know.  And that's part of my research, but the article this guy posted was pointing to different industries.  Population migration is only part of the story.

I think the third one is the one you are referring to you may find http://www.twc.state.tx.us/jobs/job.html to be a good site when I worked for the Texas Workforce commission we had a lot of good data there you will just need to dig for it.

I hope this helps

My mom's side of the family is from OK. Listening to my uncle talk about the sooners being ranked #1 is going to be the worst part of football starting again.

Its amazing to me that the President (and big media) will use "bash Texas" as a campaign strategy and even more amazing to me if the average citizen falls for it.

Right, because nobody was ever bashing Chicago & Illinois when Obama was running.

I think this is the blog you're looking for: http://www.economist.com/blogs/democracyinamerica/2011/08/job-creation

But I'm loving how anything that questions the storyline that the Texas economy is anything other than the crowing glory and pinnacle of modern economics and job creation is just left wing media lies and Texas bashing and anything that backs up the strength of the texas economy and job creation is the right wing cherry picking stats and spin.  Makes me smile.

Why?  The average citizen usually buys into one of the two brands of BS curently available.

Very nice you can laugh at it because it is funny if you think about it.

My guess is that Perry has done some good and some bad and the overall effect on Texas economy would be hard to objectively quantify.

Don't worry though, CNN will clarify it one way for me and then FOX another way.... that way I will get truly 'balanced news'

I like it.  The 'two wrongs make a right' theory of news gathering

Uh, you're a doctor. You're obviously one of the ones bringing the economy down. That's why we need to nationalize your job.

Duh.

Geez, Derek, this is proof why we need to leave all of this to those who have spent time studying law and government.

I got a simple idea! please pick the one that applies to you!

 1. If your job is relocating to Texas come on down! you are welcome here! the pay may be below the national average, but so is the cost of living, our economy is growing and we just discovered what may well be the largest oil find in the Nation EVER!

2. If you do not have a job stay out!! our economy sucks and you will only find disappointment and despair. You are far better off staying in your home state until the experts correct all the wrongs that have afflicted you.   Trust me you do not want to come down here, our schools suck, pay sucks, and all the land is polluted from the greedy oil companies that have despoiled our natural beauty.

You can not go wrong, and most importently! Texas can not go wrong if you choose honestly.
