I went to Lake Placid this year  and started thinking about T1. ( I didn't watch this part) I remember seeing all the bikes at the oval in the end, but this can't possibly be where you get on them from the swim. Is the bike take off close to Mirror Lake? I think I must have missed something.

You get your bike from oval. You run up out of Mirror lake, down the road that goes into the oval, then get your T1 bag, go through change tent, then out to bikes in the oval. T1 in LP is longer and slower than some other IMs due to distance you have to travel.

it seems like it is going to be a really long run from what I pictured. hmmmm.... hopefully I am too concerned with transition over running on some rocks or pebbles in the transition.

i did LP this year and the jog down to T1 isnt bad. they put mats down the entire shoot into the oval.

just be careful and dont slip cause it will be wet.

They did put down mats. Lots and lots of mats. It's not what I would call a short distance, especially when you factor in the logistics of getting to your bags, then getting to the change tent, then getting to your bike, then getting to the mount line. Over 300 yards just from the water to the oval.

yeah, so just think of the race as a 140.8.

Good points have been posted.  It's a long ways to T1 but with your adrenaline and the crowd support it flies by.  Just don't try to compare you transition time with other races.  Also if you are a 1:20 swimmer be prepared to wait a couple minutes just to be able to mount on your bike.  The line was crazy long when I got to it.

Honestly, the entire run is downhill, it's maybe two blocks, the crowds are screaming, and you are just so damn happy at that point to have the swim behind you.  It was the fastest and easiest part of the day by a longshot.
