Subject: To off season or not to off season???

So I was supposed to do the 5150 Las Vegas in October and another race on Sunday. Both races have been cancelled leaving me feeling very unfulfilled with the season this year. The race this Sunday was supposed to be my "big race" of the season - sprint tri on home turf and I was going for the win overall female (finished 2nd 2 years ago and 4th last year).

20 weeks of training and no big finish Cry So now that I have no races to look forward to, I am considering doing a Long Course Tri in November (have not trained for this) OR a sprint tri in 3 weeks OR just calling it a season and maybe tackling a marathon. Looking for suggestions but have to admit on the one hand I feel really burnt out on tri training and on the other hand feel like my season is a complete disappointment without that final race. Suggestions appreciated.

That sucks.  I know if I were in your shoes I'd find something somewhere to race in even if I had to drive a ways.

You could hit up Nathan's here in Tempe in 4 weeks.  Or you could just can it and do RnR Vegas.

Reap the rewards of your 20 weeks of training, find a race

After all that work, go find a race.  At least the one in 3 weeks, hit it hard for another 10 days or so and then taper, again.  Pretty frustrating but don't let all that work go to waste, and have your season end on a sour note?.  Nah, go race!

I would find a race tri and marathon...my only concern is even though it sounds like you are an accomplished triathlete (podium finishes) since you said you have not trained for the long course I dont think you should risk injury trying to get ready so fast...but if you are ready for another tri or marathon go for it...but thats just my initial opinion after reading your post, its not like I know you or your training at all...but good luck

VikingMan HIM in 2 weeks in Idaho.

Bit of a drive but not terrible.

Use that fitness.  Pumpkinman Half in Boulder City (may be the Nov. HIM you referenced).  It's a small field, so you may well still place ( i think if you are Olympic trained, you can be HIM trained by Nov.)

There some big race in Hawaii coming up...

In all seriousness, don't let your training go to waste.  Reward yourself is possible.

I was in the same boat - my October HM is still on, but I the Oly I was supposed to do yesterday got cancelled. (Good thing since it was in Vermont.)  What I did (and what you should do) is find another race. I'm racing on Saturday instead.

Yeah, it's less-than-ideal tapering because I had to start my HM training, a not-as-nice swim, and means I have to get up at 4 a.m. to get there in time, but it's better than calling it a tri season.
