Subject: I need a pool in central MA
I'm loking for a gym/club in the Worcester area that has a pool-only membership or is reasonably priced.  I just need a pool and don't want to spend Y membership fees. Any ideas?

Hi Candy! I've heard good things about SymFit in Boxborough. It might be a little out of your way if you're coming from Worcester. I'm not sure on their rates but it might be worth checking out. http://www.swymfit.com/

most colleges dont really care who you are... just look up their hours and show up. worst case you have to try another school.

Here is a link to the New England Masters current work out group. Looks like the Greendale YMCA Masters team swims at the worchester YMCA Tues and Thurs 7:00p - 8:00p. The cost is $50 for 8 weeks for YMCA members or $100 for 8 weeks for non-YMCA members.

If you do not want to join the masters than you can usually call the pool and get their open swim hours, however I strongly recomend joining a masters team no mater what your level is.

My first two years of Tri training I swam on my own and always managed to get through the swim somewhere in the mid to back of the pack. I joined a masters team for 16 weeks over the winter and I jumped up to the top 10% in my age group plus my technique improved so much that I actually had more energy for the bike and run (which lead to faster times in both of those disiplines). 2hours per week in swim training will yield you greater results than 2 hours per week in running or biking.

Thanks for the info.  I found a pool which doesn't require a club membership from one of the links in Whitinsville which is not far from me.

I've gone to that master's program.

don't bother.   in the entire 12 weeks I went, the only feedback I ever got (and after specifically asking, more than once) was "try to take fewer strokes per length".

Whitin Community Center has a masters program. I used to belong to this gym but lap swim didn't gel with my work schedule. It's a nice pool and a good masters group
