Overall Rank = 1604/1879
Age Group = 30-34F
Age Group Rank = 128/164
Pre-race routine:

Walk/nervous breakdown as usual ;)
Event warmup:

I need to do more of a warm up. I get into trouble when I don't get my heartrate up and then try to swim.
Swim
  • 39m 3s
  • 820 yards
  • 04m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

The chop was horrific. I hadn't warmed up properly but I never do and have had better races than this. I had to stop about 10 times. I considered having them pull me.

I used up my legs in the swim.
What would you do differently?:

I need so much more open water practice.
Transition 1
  • 03m 55s
Comments:

Huge Transition but went well.
What would you do differently?:

Not have a terrible swim.
Bike
  • 48m
  • 13.67 miles
  • 17.09 mile/hr
Comments:

Rough bike ride. Lots of small hills. Strong headwind for the first half, tail wind for second half. I was so worn out from the swim.
What would you do differently?:

It was the best effort I could manage after the swim I had.
Transition 2
  • 03m 20s
Comments:

A bunch of people crammed their bikes onto my rack after they finished. Pissed me off but it's a large race so it is what it is.
What would you do differently?:

Know where run out is.
Run
  • 41m 36s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 13m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs were completely used up at this point. I struggled to meet 4 minute run 1 minute walk. My right knee was hurting and my feet were pretty cut up from the swim. I did management to fix the stitch in my right side by breathing when I struck with my left foot.
What would you do differently?:

Not suck.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around confused looking for beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim and my lack of running base

Event comments:

Wish they had more people cheering on the bike run.

Sorry you had such a rough time with the swim, I did too!  I really blame it for getting me down for the rest of the race.  Hey, at least we finished and didn't chicken out!  (It crossed my mind several times).

Way to HTFU out there!  That swim and bike (head-wind) were brutal. I had the worst swim time and bike time of my life. But congrats on never giving up and finishing!

You don't suck! :P

Your bike speed was pretty awesome considering that the first half was into the wind and your legs were used up. Way to stick it out and finish no matter what.

Thanks guys!  I just got so disheartened by the swim.  I started to panic a few times which I found really weird because I've gotten out and done OWS at Ohio - in Chop and done that distance in less than a half hour.  I know not fast but I was able to do it all freestyle in practice.

Race day freak out I guess.  I thought about having them pull me once but just figured if I could keep moving forward I'd get there.  Next year will be  a whole new ballgame!

Way to push through on the swim and still hit a good bike pace! I was just looking at the pictures they put up on the website. One of the swim you can actually see 5 different people hanging onto the wall just at that moment!

Love your warmdown! I didn't know we had to wait until 10AM to get beer. No love for the early waves!

Congrats on the finish!  I am with you that the swim portion was a little disheartening, but at least you dug in and completed the event.

I was in your same wave group, and had my own freak out prior to the start, mostly due to the bike ride to transition in the morning and seeing the waves crashing in to the beach and break walls... I just wanted to go home and back to bed, but sooo glad that I didn't.

Thanks!  I LOVE the bike portion of any tri.  I just hammered as best I could.

BUT!!!! One of the tents had secret beer!  I sat down, they said they had refreshments in the cooler, I asked if they had beer, he looked at me and said very slowly....There are REFRESHMENTS in the coolers....just look around....

:D  I won't say who it was but I bought my tri suit from them at the beginning of the season - so I was gulping a Heineken at 8:45
