Thought about you all (and those doing the IMWI) when, at about noon yesterday, I was having a really hard time finding any shade from the hot sun. Hope everyone was hydrated and had a great race.

Yes it was hot out. There was a little breeze, that actually made me feel cold. However that just turned out to be early signs of dehydration and heat exhaustion. Yeah. What a fun day :/

I recognized your goatee when I saw you on the run.   Sorry we didn't connect before/after.  You didn't get hauled away in an ambulance, did ya?

I saw the ambulance and paramedics. Thought maybe they were waiting for me to fall over. Made it, though. Nice day except the run was quite hot as people have been saying. Turns out sunscreen doesn't survive six hours of sweating very well.

Posted my race report.

Good one.

You guys need to tell us how it went.  Results aren't up yet and only Shaun has written an RR.  Inquiring minds want to know!

Yeah, yeah, I know!  Short version:  Swim was good (due to a Randy short course). Bike was solid.  Run was great for about 8 miles then I got scorched.  Overall good time.  No medal.  No shirt.

If anyone locates results, please post a link.   Thanks.

short swim is an understatement.  I was out of the water right around 20 minutes.  that is crazy short.

Then came pacing.  wow i learned a lot yesterday.  first is that i am not in as good of shape as i thought.  second is that i can hide the lack of shape i am in during an OLY ; not so much during a HIM.  Third is i need to bike more.... a lot more.  Fourth is that in a HIM i  dont try to go out hard on the bike.

other than that it was very painful.

It was fun atmosphere, and the participants were all very friendly and more supportive compared shorter races.  I agree with shaun, it did have a more social feel to it.

OH and i want some results "randy".  please......

Posted my race report.

That ambulance was sobering. I was finishing the run when the picked the kid up. He must have been about 20 or so, and apparently he just collapsed at mile 12. They had a breather (one of those hand pump masks) on him when I went by, he was just laying there not moving. I hope he's OK and it wasn't a-fib or something horrible.

I'm bummed to hear about how short the swim was...I thought I had a good day there. I suppose I can't say much until I see the splits.

I was undertrained for the race. I blew up at mile 7, I mean the wheels just fell off the bus. I wanted to break 5 hrs this year (and I have the run skills to do it!), alas I crossed the finish at 5:00:14. 14 seconds....

Thankfully, I'm not mad. I am just resolved to crush it next year. I learned so much yesterday about "racing" that distance.

I can name 20 different spots that I could have gained that 14s back, but ulitmately I was not prepared for racing beyond 4 hrs. A fabulous learning experience.

Holy cow. I did not see that guy. There was a second guy hauled away in another ambulance. He crossed the finish line ( way ahead of me, my partner helped him out), and then he collapsed. He did not even know his own name. My partner had EMT training in the past. She was suprised there was no one with medical training on hand. With that size and distance race, they really should have someone more than a massage therapist on hand.

Wow, a really sad thing to add to the list of how FrontRunner is not really prepared for their events adequately...

This was my first HIM distance, and I definitely learned a lot. Mostly that I need to do some serious nutrition evaluation. Swim went well (as it usually does for me), bike was fine I think about a high 20mph avg (can't tell for sure though since results have yet to be posted....), but that dang run is a whole different story. I think I hit about mile 7 at about 4 hours, I was feeling good and optimistic about finishing at 5 hours. But I definitely hit a wall then. Not sure if it was from the heat or poor nutrition intake or a combo of both, but it took me 1.5 hours to run the last 6 or 7 miles.

I'm also not happy about the lack of posted results...

ya i really am not upset by their lack of organization, accurate distances, or preparation.  It kind of amuses me at times.  I am just happy there is a race with timing chips and other racers.  But when safety is a concern, that can be disappointing....

It went well enough for my first HIM (minus a couple miles). I probably pushed it too hard on the bike seeing as I fell apart bad halfway through the run. But it was fun, and a great learning experience for next year.

Hope to see you at more races next year. (I plan on doing Buffalo Oly next year by the way

I plan/hope to buffalo oly again next year also.  I am definitely going to maximize the race calendar and squeeze in as many races as possible next year.

Hate to pile on the RD, but add no medals or finisher shirts to the list of items that were lacking.

Also, there's GOT to be a way to put in another bike waterbottle exchange.  I know the one they have is logistially easy as it's at the start/finish, but Scandia seems to be the logical location for another.  Arg.

I am surprised you didn't get a medal, because I am pretty sure they have something that they use to make their own medals.  All of my VS/FR medals are identical except for a sticker for each event glued on.  I kind of like them, actually.
