More walking - long distance between swim and transition set up.

Eat sandwich while waiting for race to begin.
Swim
  • 24m 21s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started poorly, not used the the heavy chop, just could not relax and do what i had praticed all summer. I kept trying to breath and swim and glide and after a while it came to me. Nothing as relaxed as ows in local lakes, but a big improvement. 5 min faster then last year (same race). Best part was when I came out of water I could still see my color (white cap) behind me. I stayed w/ a bunch of them.
What would you do differently?:

More pratice, and take my 1st lesson this winter. get that form thing down.
Transition 1
  • 03m 10s
Comments:

Ok i guess, long run between swim and t1 area, so I was not thinking to clearly, ran past bike. Other then that bike shoes on - no socks helmet on and running to mount area.
What would you do differently?:

Practice finding bike at least twice.
Bike
  • 46m 37s
  • 13.67 miles
  • 17.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Great ride - big North wind coming off lake Michigan, and that 1st on ramp to the road was a giant wind tunnel. After that I road well, high cadence, hammered the hills and got back into areo postition ASAP. I passed everyone - and was only passed by the pros. Lots of fun on bike great views of lake and city.
What would you do differently?:

Going to get new bike, mine is a 10 speed from the early 90's. Very heavy and since this was my 2nd race I know I'll be doing these races for a few years, now to buy a lighter rode bike.
Transition 2
  • 03m 3s
Comments:

this went better but still had problem finding my stuff, then I knocked a bike over and had to fix his stuff before racking mine. Shoes on - no socks, bibb on, off i went. Felt no leg problems from bike ride.
What would you do differently?:

pratice find bike area from other direction.
Run
  • 27m 23s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

great run, alittle tired during the 2nd mile, slowed pace for a few mins had chance to talk to 2 people and then felt refreshed and ran well for me to the end. Good crowds cheering you on at the end.
What would you do differently?:

Keep running. Learn to run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Beer garden and lots of walking.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

confidence in myself for swim.
Heavy Bike needs to be upgraded.

Event comments:

2nd year and 2nd tri, I will continue to go every year. Great way to end summer before kids go to school.
