Total Time = 2h 31m 30s
Overall Rank = 30/92
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 10/25
Pre-race routine:

Drove the 45 min, arrived around 8:45am, that was plenty of time before the wave start at 10am
In fact, there only few people and it was a little difficult to find your way around to packet pickup
Met up with joe, marcus, thomas and antonio. Later on, thomas dm also showed up, he had registered late
They had lockers, that was good to take care of the car keys

Event warmup:

Most people got into the pool about 5 min before the start
I asked around for expected swim times and we lined up, i was first again and lapped everyone several times

Unfortunately, there was no go signal from the bike course so they had to delay
It was not clear what was going on and i decided to get out of the water. I wrapped up in large sun umbrella, that helped a lot to stay relatively warm

Finally, we started at 10:20am...
Swim
  • 26m 51s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 47s / 100 meters
Comments:

Luckily we had sorted out the expected swim times, I started first and quickly pulled away
There were two guys swimming breast stroke, so I lapped several times

Overall no problem
What would you do differently?:

I still like OWS much better....
Transition 1
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

T area was great, all asphalt, very clean
I had a quick gel

The way out of T was essentially not marked, had to follow some other folks who were yelling at me

ALso, the bike mount was a line on the road with no one standing there, I kept running until someone yelled get on the bike
Bike
  • 1h 16m 27s
  • 41.5 kms
  • 32.57 km/hr
Comments:

THat was pretty disappointing!
Took me a long time to get HR down

For the first two or three laps I was extra careful due to the many technical corners. I tried to push in between but never achieved more than 43kmph. Overall, I was averaging around 33kph while I was hoping for 35 after Frankfurt.

Around mid point, THomas B was catching up with me, he slowed down a bit and then took off, that was very demoralizing how easily he pulled away (he had the 9th fastest time, under 1:10:00 in the end)
What would you do differently?:

Definitely more bike training
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Yes, I got out of the shoes for the first time, worked great!

Racking the bike was a little fumble but no big deal

Quick gel
Run
  • 45m 17s
  • 9.1 kms
  • 04m 59s  min/km
Comments:

Another great run!
Immediately started out on a 5:00 pace and over the run slightly accelerated
Was able to push a litle harder on the last quarter, felt great!
There was one aid station so you passed four times, I grabbed Coke each time, that was good

I passed Marcus, Joe, Thomas and Antonio on each lap, Marcus was leading in our wave! It was great motivation to see that I was not too far behind, after all they are all the league starters, it was clear that I would come in last from the club
What would you do differently?:

Not a lot, just need to loose weight
Post race
Warm down:

Hanging out with the others, waiting for Thomas DM to finish (he was in the next wave)

Event comments:

I was disappointed in my bike performance but the run was fun again!
Next time I would be better prepared for the technical parts on the bike, but not sure if that would make the difference
Normalized for distance, I still would not have broken 2:30, so I still need to work towards that
