Mountain Madness Triathlon

Is this just a repackaged version of the low profile half that runs in North GA?  Regardless, looks like a really hard course could be in the offering...

Different race. This one is in Blue Ridge close to Ellijay on lake Carter vs Steelman half (aka Beast of the East) being in Hiawassee and on lake chatuge.

I have not looked at the map yet, but if it is anything close to the GA-MS escape from Blue Ridge sprint I would bet the course is tough. Still, it is another half that can be put on the docket.

Setup Events, USAT, saw that last night (not that I'm looking at it though).  Another early season, May5th race close to Atlanta.

Bike won't be flat.  Even in the race course description, it has an award for King of the Mountain KOM for the fastest split up the climb to the park that also finishes the race.  Wonder how far the climb is.  Sounds like a fun though.

At least they aren't advertising as "flat and fast".......

Just to be clear...Ft. Mountain climb is 6 miles of pain.  Rough climb and KoM makes it a real temptation.  Good chance the legs are cooked when you get to the run.  I am interested in it as a challenge, not a time centric course.

I happened to stumble across this thread.  I am one of the race directors with Zone 5 Events that owns the Mountain Madness Triathlon.  I just wanted to clarify that this is in no way, shape or form the re-packaging of any event held in North Georgia.

The Mountain Madness Triathlon is a brand new event.  Zone 5 Events, along with our title sponsor Podium Multisports, have worked hard to make sure this is a production that will be second to none and race that will be a must do for all serious triathletes.  We have hired SetUp Events to provide the timing and race day management.  As many of you know, SetUp Events is the nation's second largest producer of multisport events and run some of the finest races in the southeast.

Our course is tough. This is not a PR race.  As fellow athletes, we believe there are plenty of existing events where you can get in your aero-bars and hammer out the miles.  We are looking for something more fun.  We are giving a King of the Mountain award for the fastest climb up Fort Mountain (a 6 mile climb to the bike turn around).  We are also giving awards for every discipline (fastest swim, T1, bike, T2, run) plus some other odd awards that will make the race more entertaining.

I could go on about the event all day, as we are very passionate about providing a first class race.  If you want any additional information please visit our website www.zone5events.com or email me directly [email protected]

Chris - thanks for the update and clarification.  I did not mean to offend with a reference to Beast of the East.   I think it is great to have some variation to the races.   I have done the climb up Ft. Mtn.  and it really has mu imagination as part of a tri.  So, I look forward to continuing to get some more details.  Please continue to come back to the board and post information.

11 weeks out from IMLP? I am in, and I'll betcha along with the 7 other local IMLP racers that I know of. Beast of the East was a great tune-up last year, but the timing of this one seems even better. Sweet.

I prefer the "challenging" races, so this might be fun to suck my friends into doing with me try.  Beast of the East is so nice and low-key, though.  : )  Hmm, lots of cool options for next year's racing season!

Had my bike on my car earlier this week and some placed a flier for this on my car.  Interesting...

you read my mind.  I don't think that I can pass this up while training for IMLP.

+1 Setup does a good job with B2B.  They're also managing Jekyl Oly Turtle Crawl 2012.

Is Mountain Madness the closest 70.3 to Atlanta?

At $130 ( + 6% registration fee + USAT fee ) it's one of the cheapest 70.3 races.

http://www.setupevents.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=event_detail&eventID=1931

Says limited to 300.  Stretched out over 28 miles out and back bike course it will be a quiet ride.

Bike course map shows most of the miles are rolling, "flat"-ish, and then the big climb halfway.  Que the tri-bike vs road bike thread...

It should be really good. Our friend Beau is one of the Zone 5 events owners, and I know they have put A Lot into this race and really want to do it right.

Just in case there is confusion. It's a half distance, but not a 70.3 as in a WTC race.

We have a ton of friends doing this race, and I would certainly be there if it wasn't the same day as St. George!
