I've volunteered at LA every year since 2006, but since I'm going to miss both Long Beach and Newport Beach this year due to kid college and work conflicts, this is my year to race instead.

Not sure if I'm hoping for a big surf year to say I've "been there," or maybe not so much...

This race looks really cool but it conflicts with my racing schedule.  Depending on my fitness level, I'm considering doing the Oly next year after the Pacific Coast Tri. =)

Good luck!  ^_^

Also a question for the race veterans--has anyone considered biking from the finish back down to Venice rather than trying to use the shuttle or arrange a ride?  It looks like just about a 14 mile ride down Venice Blvd, which shouldn't be too bad after a sprint...

I'm signed up and ready to take on the Oly! Lost 38 Pounds in 4 months and counting, and completed 90% of the free training program!, thanx BT. It was a hefty goal that took a load of work and dedication, but I'm almost there. To think I couldn't swim more than 100m at time in the beginning, I just finished the longest swim in the program, and in my life, today.....2250m......Lets rock.....

Are you from the Los Angeles area and familiar with Venice Blvd? I personally would not want to share the road with the crazy drivers we have in the city here. I know there is a popular bike path from the Westside to the beaches but you need to find a safe way from Downtown (finish line) to the Westside.

I understand you not wanting to deal with the shuttle afterwards but make sure you find a safe route back if you end up biking it. I assume you'll also have your wetsuit and other gear on you as well.

The actual ride through LA is great. You'll never get the streets to yourself otherwise here.

Good luck!

I have done the shuttle a few times parking at Staples . But this race is priced so steep
I save parking fee at Convention center and shuttle fee by
parking (free) in culver city (off venice) and ride down to Transition 1 before the race
No parking of traffic to worry about .
Then after the race rode west back towards the beach on pico and then venice , its downhill and yes you do have to watch traffic like in any city .There is a bike lane on Venice blvd all the way to the beach . Make sure you have a big enough backpack to get all your T1 and T2 gear in.
