kapolei,
Subject: Training log upload repeatedly freezes up.

Greetings,

I've recently been having considerable trouble uploading data from my garmin source.  BT recognizes my Garmin 310XT, runs though the transfer process, then it just freezes at "Transfer Complete".  I am accustomed to seeing it then show which workouts for that day are available for upload, but it just sits there without continuing.

I've tried it in Firefox, Chrome and I am currently running IE8.  No luck with any of them and I have cleared my browser cache and restarted a number of times.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Pappy

For the 310xt, Garmin Communicator pulls the files from the device and stores them in a folder on your PC. If the number of these files gets too large Communicator stalls. The fix is to reduce the number of files in that directory. If you want to save them, just move them to another folder. Just save the last few workouts.

In Win7 the files are located here: C:\Users\computer username\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\Devices\Device Number\History.   Or if you're running XP they can be found here:  C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\GARMIN\Devices\device number\History   I'm not sure where they are on a Mac, but the directory names are similar.
Note that the folder names in italics are specific to your computer and Garmin device.

That's weird! All the other users have an AppData file but I don't! What should I do?

Can you search for the Garmin directory?

I've done a search for "Garmin" and got a Garmin folder. The result I got was microsoft/windows/start menu/programs/garmin

All that's in there is the Ant agent shortcut.

If I go into start/programs there's a Garmin entry but again all that has is the Ant Agent in it.

I was having the same issue, then realized I didn't have "hidden files" selected to view.

The Application Data (Windows XP) and it's sub-folders are by default hidden.

From "my computer", go to the "Tools" pull down, then "folder options", then click the "view" tab.

Under "Advanced Settings", look for "Hidden Files and Folders", and click on "Show Hidden Files and Folders".  Then make sure "apply to all folders" is selected.  Then hit "Apply" or OK.

Application Data should now show up.

This worked for me also; clearing out the folder (except my most recent workouts) sped it up a lot!

I've unhidden all hidden folders but I can't find the necessary folder to clear out.

I'm stuck I'm afraid. If I can't get the download to work from my Garmin I'll just have to quit and go elsewhere - which will be a real shame.

For the avoidance of doubt, here's my problem.

I've got windows vista and a Garmin 310XT.  When I try to uplaod a workout it will firstly take ages (it seems to get stuck yet its telling me it is "transfer complete" when it has a small amount of data left to get.  Eventually it finds all the details and I can complete the process.  Then I go to upload a different day's training data. Again it gets to saying "transfer complete" but this time I leave it for ages and ages and it just never gets to the position where I can choose the workout and click to upload the transferred data.

That's the classic description of having too many history files. That directory and those files have to be on your pc. Can you call Garmin support and get them to help you find that directory? It's created and used by their software so they should be able to direct you to it.

You are a genius Mike.  Took a little while to find the files in my Mac but once I cleared them I uploaded in 2 seconds as opposed to 20 minutes.

Anyone need Mac help finding the files, PM me
