Hi, I was looking at half-iron races in my area for next year.  I'm in eastern washington.  I was originally looking at the boise 70.3, but then I discovered troika, which is much closer.

The course looks nice, but, there are so few registrants each year.  Reading the race reports I get the impressions that the race isn't well organized. What can you tell me about this race? Worth the time?

My wife has done this race a couple times, and I have been there with her.  Not a bad race.  I don't ever recall being any major issues.  I think if you live over there then go for it!  If not look at Chelanman in July.  Very well organized, and a awesome course.

I did Troika many years ago (1991, I think), and it was right up there with the most well-organized I've ever done.

I did it a few years ago (2006, I think) and thought it was a great race. Didn't have any issues with the way it was run or the support.

I have heard its a great race from a number of people. I had planned on doing this race this year until I decided going straight from sprint distance to an IM was a good idea and signed up for IMCDA, I think I will do it next year though. I did a tri at Moses Lake in 2010, water was so shallow you could stand up at the furthest point out!

I'm doing this race as my first tri.  I've heard several people say it's a great race, well supported, w/o the high # of competitors.  I'm doing this one simply do to it being local.  Not looking forward to HIM in August, but training should prepare for that.

I have heard it is a good race, however I am somewhat unhappy with the race organizers for not cleaning up the Centennial trail after it was over. There are still Troika markers on the course and the markers are tape nonetheless.

I had thought about doing ChelanMan until I read more about the bike course which is exceptionally tough so I am thinking on doing the Olympic distance there and I am doing IM Boise 70.3 instead.

Looking at the Bike route on the website today.  It has you go over the North side centenial route along the river into town.  by doing this, you cut out the biggest potential uphill in the event.  Bonus.  There are still a few moderate hills, but the one that is cut out on the south side of the river is a beast.

Yep - it does cut out some of the hills.  I plan on riding this route several times before race day

About 4 weeks out peeps!  I'm starting to get excited for this, it will be my first tri.  I've switched much of my training to mid days to get ready for the 85-100 degree heat that we could be riding/running in.  I've ridden all of the course at seperate times and am really happy about that stretch of 10 miles or so on the 4 mound road going to 7 mile that is mostly downhill.Wink  I just purchased cycling shoes and pedals for the first time, and have already noticed a difference.  My goal for my first triathlon is to finish.  I would like to be MOP in age group and overall, and am shooting for a 6:00-6:15 finish time.  If I got below 6:00, That'd be pretty amazing, but I think the heat may play a pretty big part in this.

Any one else racing this for the first time?  Hoping it's a great event and looking forward to getting after it.

My wife has done this race 3 times I believe (she raced it before we meet). She loves it and is talking me into doing with her next year. We're kinda toying with the idea of doing this year still, but I doubt it.

I'm jelous.  I had the treat of riding the roller coasters at that park 2 summers ago.  One of the best days of my life.  Have fun!
