Subject: Which Spinervals DVD?

Looking to buy one or maybe a couple Spinervals DVD's for the off season.  Could use some help picking which one(s).

I am overweight.  I currently bike about 14 miles at a time.  Average 16 MPH on semi hilly course.  Looking to gain endurance, strength, and speed over the off season.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I really like the competition 34.0.  This winter I plan on doing Jorge's winter training plan.  It's definitely worth a look.  I can't find the link right now though.  I will get back to you on that.

Here you go.  I found it.

Any particular reason you're looking for just one? Get one a month for a while and end up with a choice each time.

How about the Hard Core 100 and start in with the first 1/2 hour then work your way up to completing the entire 5.5 hours.

I love my trainer and all but there's no way in hell that I"ll ever ride 5.5 hours straight on it! Dang!

My two favorites:

- Muscle Breakdown - this is a 75-80 minute workout with lots of intensity, but can be down in a 45-min block so it's really like 2 Spinervals discs in one. There's a isometric squat where you get off the bike for a few minutes at around the 45 minute point which is a good get-off point. (Those squats are REALLY hard - I thought they'd be a joke at first, but gave 'em a try and was duly humbled.)

- The Uphill Grind - Not the greatest production values, but it's a pretty short but quality longer interval workout. 40 minutes total, with 4 x 5 minute intervals which is great for Oly distance type training. I use this one on busy days.

Yes look at the Sufferfest dvds.  Spinervals are like $30 apiece and the Sufferfest gets the job done with a  little less strain on the wallet.  I have 3 of the Spinervals dvds but am looking to buy some of the Sufferfest for this winter.

I hadn't heard of Sufferfest, was considering some additional Spinervals to go with the one that came with my KK. Just ordered the full set of Sufferfest and I really like that they are "portable" I have a business trip next week, may have to try one on my phone in the hotel exercise room - usually I just try to fit in some runs on my trips.

FYI - Downloads do take forever.

ETA: Full set is all 6 via download for $59.99. That is about the cost of 2 Spinerval DVDs

Already spend too much money on all of this stuff! LOL

I've successfully gotten several off ebay.  The most I've ever paid for an unopened package is $20 with free shipping.  I've paid as little as $9 + $3 shipping!  The ones I purchased wereprivately owned and the owners didn't use them at all, or anymore.

You're going to have a hard time finding one DVD to do all of the things you mentioned.  I'll go through my library when I'm at a place where I can look at it and let you know my favorites with the #s... off the top of my head, my FAVORITES and I've done a bunch:

Time Saver 23.0 - Three 30-minute workouts: 1 recovery, 1 time trial, 1 power.  I combine the power and time trial for 1 workout because I think the 7X1.5 minutes in the "time trial" workout isn't really a "time trial" workout, intervals too short to me, more like power.

Hillacious (don't know # - the one w/Great Harvest Bread Co) - I was one of the first to purchase the Uphill Grind.  This one is newer and the workout, quite frankly, kicks a$$ compared to Uphill Grind.  About 1 hour.

Aero Base Builder - I need to get the # for this one.  1 hour 20 minutes all well under LT (love this workout) as 4X5 min, 4X4 min, 4X3 min, 4X2 min, 3X30 seconds all varying gears and cadence and minimal rest.  HR no higher than low zone 3.  A must for your winter base building.

Timetrialpalooza - need to get # but a great LT/Time Trial workout the way it should be: long, grueling intervals.

I have several but I like dropping the hammer the most. I tend to watch TV if I'm just doing an easy aerobic ride. There's also totally time trial. Best deal is getting a package on sale. Nashbar has them on sale from time to time
