Pre-race routine:

The usual.
16oz nuun, powerbar, oatmeal breakfast.
another 16oz nuun, cliff crunch bar during the drive to the race.
53 miles
Event warmup:

1mile easy run
Swim
  • 32m 57s
  • 1602 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

Some of the very best drafting and navigation ever. Strong pacing freestyle the entire swim. Every time I checked position I was on course.
What would you do differently?:

Swim Faster.
Transition 1

Comments:

Good run from beach into the park. Googles and swim cap off and trapped in the sleeve of the wetsuit. Helmet on. Both legs snapped out of wetsuit on the first pull. Added about 10 seconds (I counted) to put on socks. Still have blisters on my toes and both heals from last weekend race without socks. Good flying mount. CX video on mounting from cyclocross.com really helped make it smooth and easy. I'm not going to miss the old flying squirel mount.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 01m 35s
  • 22.2 miles
  • 21.63 mile/hr
Comments:

First leg was on fresh chip seal. Felt slow on this leg to the 4 mile marker. Turned right onto new asphalt. Go baby go. One bobble taking a gu just before a climb. Held the open packet in my mouth as I hammered the hill out of the saddle. Really puffing at the top as I can back in to the saddle and shifted 2 gears to drop the two riders I passed on the hill. Good cheering from the course voluteers. Course well marked. Flats and hills mixed. This is my style of course. No soreness in the saddle or numb toes. Second lap caught a lot of the sprint course traffic whoop whoop. at 26 I can really eat up a course of slower traffic. I love to pass.
What would you do differently?:

One freaky section caught a long line of cars behind alow group of 8 riders. Passed all the cars and then passed to riders. I would never have done this move during a group ride so I am of mixed emotions, was it over the line?

Garmin was not reporting power meter data. rode by feel and it felt good.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Really hustled the bike from the dismount line to the rack. Running big stride leaning on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Know exactly how the bike is going into the rack before the start of the race.
Run
  • 1h 01m 37s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Very sore feet first 3 miles. Stopped to check for a rock in my left shoe, but it was just my foot. huh? Right foot arch hurting for the first 2 miles. Running a very conservative 10 min mile pace. Still stiff from last weekends sprinting finish. Decided to run safe. Good finish. Steady wins today.
What would you do differently?:

Flex my toes during the bike to avoid stiff feet during the first 2 miles of the run. Really disconcerting to run on feet made of bricks. I know they well come around after a few miles but could do a lot better if the start of the run were not so weird.
Post race
Warm down:

Easy Jog,
Free food at the finish line,
Bit of cheese, and turkey, and heed, plus a small slice of banana.
Felt better after cool down than I usually do after a race.

Oh what a feeling, Oh what a rush,
ready to sign up for another race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Stiff from hard racing last weekend.

Event comments:

Lots of friendly volunteers. Well organized. Yes I would do this race again.
