Subject: RE: how many races have you missed? One, this thanksgiving while at my mom's house in PA. Started snowing right before I headed toward the race. Snow on the road but not too bad and it just started sticking on the road. Passed two cars that started flashing thier lights and waving arms. uh oh. Very large downhill. Tapped brakes. Didn't slow down. Oh poo. Got down into 4 low to slow my speed but brakes did nothing. Looked in rear view and saw car behind me flying into the woods. In front of me, car upside down in ditch (with runners going to the race no less). Another car in ditch on other side. Shot the gap and thankfully made it to the bottom of the hill in one piece. Wish I had my heart rate monitor on. Said screw this and went home the other way. By the time I got home, they had closed the road in both directions (and they just don't close roads for snow in PA). Spend the rest of thanksgiving sleigh riding with my daughter who has only seen snow a few times (we live in Charlotte) and deemed that better than any race! I also had one almost DNS this year. Woke up for a sprint in April and it was monsooning out at 4:30am and I had an 80 mile drive to get to the start. Looked at the forecast and saw it was supposed to storm all day. Went back to bed. When I woke up, checked my email and saw they cancelled the race about 10 minutes after I was supposed to leave. This was the day the tornado blew away the Lowes about 100 miles from the race site. Good call on back to bed. Edited by bgraboski 2011-09-06 1:37 PM
