markdills38 - 2011-10-31 12:18 PM Getting Excited.  Training has been pretty good.  My first NYC as well.  Hoping for my first sub 3 hour.  I am in Blue wave#1 corral #4.  Good luck everyone!

markdills - I am in the same corral.  Will be wearing some sort of Odwalla garb.  If you see me, say hey before you leave me in your dust.

Would love to say Hi  I will be wearing a black D3 long sleeve.  I will look for you.

Mark - although my logs are not up to date, we have similar times/goals.  My 1/2 mary was 1:27, on a windy day and I negative split.  Am thinking 3:03-3:05, but if the legs feel good, will go for a sub 3.  Wish the course was a little flatter.

Is anyone staying for a couple days after?  we are out there until Wednesday!

Excellent!  It is flatter than  Boston I hear.  I was 3:03 last year  The first 13 miles of downhill killed me.  Best of luck! What corral?

markdills - I am in Green Wave#1 Corral#6.  So, not sure I will see you.  With weather creeping into the upper 50s, I will be in my Sony singlet (its part of the Active sponsorship team).

Green Wave #1, Corral #20 here! Shooting for sub 3:40 (y'all are fasties...!). First NYC marathon ever, I'm sooooo excited! I haven't decided yet exactly what I'm wearing -- the weather keeps changing its mind, but it looks like it'll be warm enough for shorts -- but whatever it is will most likely be covered up in ratty old purple sweats before the start.

Is everyone pumped?!

We wont see each other until the 3 routes come together at the very earliest.  My wife is in a different start village than I.  I will watch for a Sony Singlet!

So, not to scare my fellow Green wave starters, but my friends have been warning me to stay away from the sides of the bridge, since Green goes on the lower level and is subject to, ahem, sprinkling from runners above (ew! Boys are so gross!).

Thinking of trying to sneak into the Orange wave with a friend. I wanna run on the TOP level!

Green wave starts up farther on the course.  My wife is in that wave and got an email that states the start area is further up the bridge and the course is changed a bit up the road.  So all the above waves should be behind you right?

Have run other marathons, I realize that New York is totally a "race to the destination. This is not a fast course, many people, a lot of potholes, manhole covers, and usually stand dilapidated New York City to explore ways by which we must pay attention. there will be a lot of people walking, stopping to take pictures, is a safe tourist marathon. submerged in the landscape. Do not worry about your time. Bridges also take much more of the legs than I expected.

Hi Jennie,

I live at altitude here in CO and have also run Boston 2 times.  I would believe that running the Colfax marathon here and Boston are harder.  I guess it depends on what races you have done in the past.

I'm not doing the race, but I'm an NYC local.  I am contemplating cycling the course before the runners come by (starting in Brooklyn).  For those who are sticking around and want some NYC advice or want to meet up for a drink, We (myself and yeajackson) will be around all weekend.  Feel fee to respond to this thread or PM me.

How'd everyone do?! I hit my goal time: 3:38:12! New PR. What an amazing race. I can't believe so many people come out to cheer for this race. The weather was beautiful (a tad warm at times, actually).

But it really was a perfect race for me, so...no complaints.

AWESOME! Congrats! Had a good time and ran a moderate effort 3:15. That course was AWESOME! I've never had so much fun during a race. I carried my video camera the whole time and recorded around 25 minutes of footage. I'll post it up once I get it edited and cleaned up on YouTube

Hey All - didn't have the greatest race.  Went out a bit faster than planned and struggled in the last 10k.  The last 5k was definitely tougher than I expected and it slowed me down.  Suffered in with a 3:17.  Had planned to do 7:30 for 16 and then the last 10 @ 7:00.  Went out in 7:10 for the first 16 and there was no picking it up.

Got a little bit of a scare in the morning.  For some reason, I never saw that that the Wave 1 corrals closed at 8:55.  They wouldn't let me in when I made my way over there a little after 9:00.  I tried a couple of corrals and they just said, "sorry, you missed your wave."  I was a bit shell-shocked.  I wandered around a bit and watched everyone head towards the staging area.  After using the porta-potty, I went to check out corral 1 to see when wave 2 was going to start.  They must have felt bad for me when they saw my bib and they let me in.  It took a while to make my way towards the front, but I still had like a half an hour and I was still waiting around at the start.  I think I was 1:20 behind the gun.  The bridge was pretty crowded, but I didn't really worry about it.

Perfect day for a run and I think it helped bring the people out to cheer.  Long walk to get out of there.  All of the way to Penn Station on 34th and 7th.  Ugh.  Happy to cross another one off the list!

Congrats on your times, everyone. You still all smoked me! (Also, hard to hear someone say they ran a "moderate" 3:15 AND videotaped 25 minutes of the race...dang!).

Me and my friend also had the exact same experience with the closing of the corrals! No announcement whatsoever. We ended up getting stuck in Wave 2, but it was still fine.
