Looks like the weather will hold out.  We'll be camping in the city campground and hope to meet up with some BT'ers throughout the weekend.  I'll post the site number once we arrive.

We hope to swim on Friday, and after the raffle on Saturday evening will be enjoying a fire and some drinks and a little bit of football.

I'll be in full sherpa mode.  If anyone new to the area has questions about the course feel free to ask.

Hey,

not sure if my health is going to allow me to race.  Two days with students and I have a sinus infection.  It doesn't help that I've had to talk to THREE HIGH SCHOOLERS about picking their nose in class- are you freaking kidding me!

major pissed off and feel like crap.

Good luck to all of you doing this.  We were hoping to get up there but won't be able to.  Hope the weather holds for you, you have smooth waters and low hills!

Steve - keep an eye on the b's!!!

It felt weird laying out a wetsuit and arm warmers yesterday after this hot summer.  I am doing the Oly as more or less a fun training day.  I am still feeling a bit funky after BOW and am trying to get right before DWD.  My wife (in full sherpa-mode too) and son will be there and I have two other friends doing the Sprint and one (who turned 50 and lost his mind) is doing the 1/2 Iron Du.  We should be up there by 5 or so and I plan on swimming the Sprint course after packet P/U.  We're staying at the resort and hope that their cabana bar will be open to watch the game.

Bummer Ben, you have my digits give me a call or text and let me know what's going on.

Coop, I'll keep an eye on them.  I know they have to keep me alive until at least Saturday night since I have grill duty both Friday and Saturday nights.  After that all bets are off.

I'm sure we'll cross paths Ted, it's been awhile.  I can't remember what the cabana bar had TV wise.  Last year the weather was nasty so we hit G's Pizzeria across hwy 23, good pizza, drinks and big screen TV's but if I recall either last year or the year before we were forced to watch football on the little tv since they had Nascar on the big screen.  Were an easy walk from the hotel you'll be at, you see the packed in campground when you get there.

Steve, two years ago we watch CMU beat MSU at the cabana bar and I think they had more than one TV.   The weather was PERFECT then and I am hoping close to that this year (maybe a little cooler).  We'll be over at Gs for dinner tomorrow night.  Hope you are healing well and look forward to seeing you this weekend!

I am bummed to be missing this race this year.  I have to say it has become one of my favorites.  We are already planning on being back next year for vacation and the race.  Have fun and race well!

I'll be to registration around six and trying to get a lay of the land for a bit before heading to Au Sable to a hotel. I'll be in a "Racing to Save Sharks" polo if anyone wants to introduce themselves. First time doing Tawas for me. Signed up for the half distance. Hope everyone has a successful race!

Had a great time hanging out with Rottie and Twohearted, and meeting Smoak and Gdawg (spelling?).  Thanks for the good times peeps!

Great weather for a great race.  Ended up with a pretty good race, finishing in 5:12:44, 10th overall and 2nd in age group.  I sort of crapped out on the run, and it was probably my own fault.  I had endurolytes in my transition bag, but didn't waste time grabbing any for the run in t2 because it was clearly stated at the prerace meeting that they were at every aid station.

Aid station one- NO ENDUROLYTES!  I began to cramp at mile 2, and was forced into a few walk breaks and to play the run conservatively.  Probably would have only been able to run 2-4 minutes faster anyway, so not the end of the world.

Also very frustrated with the damn drafting at this race again.  Enforce the f'ing rules race directors.  I swear, if I ever grow a brain, I am going to start boycotting races that don't enforce the rules and make this a one on one event.

peace

weather and racing great.  spending the weekend with friends, priceless.

@hey ben!  so nice to meet you too.  the drafting will continue and be tolerated as long as the two companies are in bed together.  see you next weekend?  HA!  best of luck at b2b.

I too abhor drafting. Pushing is fine though.

Sorry Rottie, I was in the #1 spot until mile 5 and hit the brick wall...bonk! Finishers #1 and 2 blew past me... Oops...should have trained for this one, but decided to take a summer of fun instead...I thought that stopping immediately after the race without cooling down was going to lead to passing out...hope to meet you and others soon...perhaps over a beer in the off season...best...BK

What a great weekend up there!!!  Congrats to Karen, Ben & Blake.  All (5) of us who were up there racing brought home hardware too.  Three AG wins in the Sprint, and AG win in the 1/2 Iron Du and I got AG 3rd in the Oly.  No where near my Oly PR of 2:30, but I had a really good day.  Oly swim PR by about a minute and it would have been much better had I not tried to round the paddle board like we were instructed right before the gun.  Apparently, the got the turn buoy back out there at some point and everyone got the message but me.  Probably swam an extra 40 yards or so.  Still swam it over 5-minutes faster than I did 2-years ago.  Decent bike for me, after slacking most of this year and 6-minutes faster than my last one there.  Ran the 10K (4) minutes slower than last time.  Like you, Ben, I called for Endurolytes at the mile-2 aid station and the poor kids had no idea what I was talking about and tried to hand me a gel.

I am really bummed to see this season wind down.  I raced my last two events (BOW and the Oly) for fun more than anything and had a blast.  I have a couple of relays coming up (DWD & The Bourbon Chase), but no more tris.  Too much going on to make next week's Belle Isle event work.
