I am signed up! Downloaded the training schedule, and completed the first long ride of 56k. Pretty good for me as i haven't been on a bike in 8 years. My question is for those that have some experience. My taining plan calls for a 150k flat ride. Where do u find that in vancouver/ the lower mainland? Can anyone recommend some nice flat long routes?

Not many flat areas anywhere in BC eh.  I used to bike around Richmond and its pretty flat maybe look for any safe routes there.

Riding in GranFondo Whistler you should look and see how much climbing you'll have to do.  I'd think you'll need more practice climbing hills than riding flats.

I've started training for GranFondo Penticton and some of the hills are killing me.  But then I'm old and slow.

Thanks for your input. I rode from downtown to Deep Cove on the weekend. I think Horseshoe Bay is on the agenda next. And the hills were killer. I think i could walk faster than i was cycling at some points. Lol. Good luck on your ride! Any idea of what the highway bike lanes are like? I'm a little nervous, but that highway towards squamish has improved immensley over the past couple years. obviously never tried riding it though!

Here's a great long ride for you, but you'd drive out here first  (white rock)

Go from white rock to 0 ave, along USA border to abbotsford, and all the way to cultus lake and back.  Total of 140- 160km depending where you leave from, and my favorite training ride.

good variety of hills and flats

The Ride was a well run event. I will definitely be doing it again in the future. Tips? Ride the route if you can. I did many many training rides between whistler and squamish. This section of road is in my opinion the hardest part of the day. For your flat steady paced rides, I hit up the back roads out in Langley and out towards Cultus Lake.

Have fun and happy training!
