Swim
Comments: This was my second swim (after the previous day's test run) in a wetsuit. Unfortunately, I took off like a madman and ended up swimming the first 100 yards or so way above my fitness level. I think I paid the price for that at the end. Overall, I was happy with my swim. The course was definitely a bit short. I hugged the buoys downstream in order to stay as deep as possible and hugged the bank coming back to stay out of the current. I was the only one with that idea (and that approximate swim time) so I ended up swimming the entire race by myself. I think the wetsuit started fatiguing me towards the end and it certainly shortened my stroke up a bit. Nonetheless, it was still a good swim. What would you do differently?: Start SLOWER. Sight better and swim a better course. Transition 1
Comments: One of my better transitions. First time getting out of a wetsuit, and it went VERY WELL. 1st in my AG-it's nice to win at something! What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Bike course was tough. Zero hills here to train on, so it was not something that I was used to. However, I think I handled them well and paced myself pretty well. During the 40 mile loop of hills there were very few times that you could settle into a rhythm and really start cycling; that became frustrating at times. I don't know how I could have saved any more energy than I did, which was really my main goal. Cycling is still my weakness, but given the amount of training and effort that I have put into it thus far, I'm happy with this performance. What would you do differently?: Train more. Lose 10 lbs. Transition 2
Comments: Put socks on. ReBody-glided my nipples. Looked around for a second to make sure I wasn't forgetting anything, and then took off. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Went pretty well. Started off "easy", didn't think I could run any slower, and ended up averaging about 7:45 for the first 5 miles. That was a mistake and wish I would have slowed down more. The bike course really caught up to me at that point and slowed me down to around an 8:10 pace. Mile 10-11 was about a 9:10, 11-12 was about a 9:30. I was able to drop down to an 8:02 for the last 1.1 miles, which I was happy with. Course was about .25 miles too long, which was a bit frustrating, so I would have ran in the 1:47 range. However, given the swim was a bit short, I guess it all evens out! What would you do differently?: Pace better. Post race
Warm down: Walked, ate, and drank. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bike fitness, body weight, run pacing. Last updated: 2011-08-28 12:00 AM

Coffee, oatmeal, and lots of bathroom breaks. This is my first HIM, so I had a fair amount of nervous energy. I forgot to eat my bagel/peanut butter/bananna sandwhich so I rode my bike back to the car to do so during my warm-up. Ate some shot blocks immediately before the swim was supposed to start.
Ran about .3 miles, rode about 2, and swam for about 10 minutes once we were able to. We stood around for 30 minutes prior to the start waiting for the fog to lift.
