Oh man.  The 10 day had the weather for Sunday at 85ish yesterday and it's already up to 89 today.  It's gonna be another hot one.  You know darn well that Sunday it's gonna be 95 in the shade.  LOL

SW @ 6mph, gusting to 9.  If you hang around this area long enough you can interpret that to mean NW @ 20, gusting to 25 or any random direction and speed.

So I was completely out of commission all day yesterday. I came down with some food poisoning or something. Just what I needed 5 days before a race.  At least it was 5 days and not the day before.  Going to be pounding water all day and trying to eat. Any suggestions for recovery? Should I try to get a light run in or just rest?

Rest. You did the work. I had bronchitis last week and it killed my taper, but it's fine.

I'd rest.

No other way to put it, that sucks. Sorry to hear it. I would suggest drinking some sports drinks as well. You are probably pretty dehydrated and have depleted a lot of electrolytes. Plenty of time to stock those back up for the race if you start with powerade.

I think a light run with stretching would be the right move. More than anything you want to keep the length/elasticity in your muscles.

Err, does anyone know where I can buy this stuff (Safesea), chain store, CVS?, etc.? I live in Philadelphia if that matters. Also - does it work? I have yet to be stung by a jellyfish - have been told not that bad - like a rubber band snap - not sure I believe that. thanks

I was in Florida when I bought some the first time, at a dive shop.  Not too many dive shops around Philly, you might do better in/near/on the way to Cambridge.

I would put it between a mosquito bite and bee sting, that goes away with time, maybe a day to completely clear up.  Small amount of localized swelling as well, nothing major though.

Just found the stuff out by me in East Norriton - Northeast Scuba Supply.

I guess there is a solid shot we will be wearing wetsuits tomorrow.. The water temp right now (3pm) according to to the NDBC website is 75.2 (3pm)

I swam part of it today without a wetsuit and thought it felt really warm. If it is wetsuit legal, its going to be a "HOT" swim.

Best of luck to everyone tomorrow. Stay cool and have your best race yet! Paul

At the race briefing, the RD said they would be measuring temperatures from several locations on the course, and making a call possibly this afternoon, but may wait until tomorrow morning.

So if NDBC says it's under the cutoff, they may still get a warmer temp, since they're taking their own temps.

I swam today with just Tri shorts and it was very refreshing. Water felt perfect to me. With that said we are just to close to the cut off for my liking. I'm gonna wear a speed suit no matter what even if that means giving up ~30 seconds to some of my competition. Way I see it I'll give that up on the swim, stay cooler and have much more in the tank for the run. I've overheated here in 2008 under similar conditions when it was a wetsuit swim and let's just say the bike and run were not pretty.

I was in the water at around 11 am and swam to first buoy, cut across and finished at swim out. The nettles were out as you got closer to the shore where the water was warm. Forgot to put swim safe in a couple of spots and am still tingling a bit. If it is wetsuit legal, going with the short John.

I'm pretty torn on this, but I will wear one if legal. At Timberman last year it was really close to the cutoff and I went with the wetsuit. Not my favorite swim, but don't think it had any negative affect on me either. The YMCA I swim at is like bathwater, so kind of used to warm temps.
