Pre-race routine:

Got up, had a peanut butter sandwich and gatorade. Got a ride to the race with Wendy (thanks Wendy). Had more gatorade at transition.
Swim
  • 1h 37m 22s
  • 4224 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

So I tried my goggles before race day but got all nervous when a friend at the IMOO dinner on Friday mentioned how her goggles leaked. Then I thought "no I tried them once, they will be fine." They weren't and I swam most of the swim with my right eye either full of water or closed. Strangely enough you get used to it after a while.
What would you do differently?:

Test my goggles more than once.
Transition 1
  • 12m 53s
Comments:

Went smoothly, just slow.
Bike
  • 7h 22m 11s
  • 112 miles
  • 15.20 mile/hr
Comments:

Had technical difficulties several times. First, a plastic piece in the middle of my wheel that is meant for safety if my gears aren't well adjusted broke and started making noise. Then it started interfering with pedaling so I got off twice and moved it in hopes that it would help. Over the next railroad track it came loose and really started creating problems so I got off again, examined the mess, decided the part was optional, and spent a while breaking it up to take it off. Then my chain came off on the front a couple times when I shifted down. The tech guy helped adjust the front so that did not happen again.
Transition 2
  • 08m 28s
Comments:

Stomach was really bothering me at this point. I just don't know what else I can try for different nutrition.
Run
  • 5h 59m 33s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 13m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Not real happy with this part but for the first 8 miles or so I was almost sure I was going to throw up so I walked most of it. My stomach started feeling better after a while so I started running more and I didn't feel too bad at the end, although I was tired and sore (of course).

So - no mention of the fact that you needed a ride to the medical tent?  No mention that you chose to leave medical on your own and vomited after leaving AND - on the way home???  You are a tough old bird!  Way to go!
