Overall Rank = 137/552

Pre-race routine:

The usual: bagel w/ peanut butter, banana, and coffee. Arrived at transition with about 50 minutes to setup.
Event warmup:

A quick swim to acclimate.
Swim
  • 39m 35s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

Overall a good swim for me, planned 40-45 minutes and came in well under that.
What would you do differently?:

I need to find a way to go out a little faster so I don't have to navigate so much traffic, but have had bad luck with that strategy in the past.
Transition 1
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

Not in a big hurry here, but I was able to run in and out of transition pretty comfortably.
What would you do differently?:

My suit got caught on my timing chip. Cheap wetsuit with ankle zippers is a good idea theoretically, but the zippers tend to ball up and get caught. Looking at a new TYR wetsuit for next season.
Bike
  • 2h 50m 57s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.65 mile/hr
Comments:

For me a great ride. Exceeded my plan to ride 19 mph and had some great leap frog sessions with a few other riders. Nice to have someone to push you a little.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing... Well maybe ride a little more, got a little saddle sore.
Transition 2
  • 03m 24s
Comments:

In even less of a hurry here. Nearly fell dismounting my bike, but overall it was fine. I didn't forget anything.
What would you do differently?:

Slow down more for dismount.
Run
  • 2h 02m 16s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

Last 3 miles were a killer. Planned to be sub 2 hours and was on pace until mile 10.
What would you do differently?:

Moooorrrrre training. Just ran out of gas. Probably would have helped to log some more miles on concrete to prepare. My back and kneess were pretty sore.
Post race
Warm down:

Slip and slide rocked!!! Thanks to the volunteers that pulled me through and helped me out at the end. Walked around, lot's of fluid Mix1 vanilla, yummy. Was finally able to stomach my lunch on the ride home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, training, training, or lack there of.

Event comments:

Great race. Thanks to Lance and all of the voluteers! Really happy with my perfromance for my first HIM. As always, learned more about myself and am looking forward to giving it another shot.

Great first HIM for you too!  I felt the same for the last three miles, just ready to finish.  You might consider the ProMotion wetsuits.  They are very well made and have ankle zippers.  My suit slides off so easy it's ridiculous.  The shoulders are a different type of neoprene and make it easy to swim in.  It's not a popular brand a la Orca, Tyr, etc. but it is very well regarded and very well made.  I've had mine for about four years now and it's held up great!  Plus I think you get a discount or free shipping via BT.  http://www.wetsuit.com/tri.html
