Subject: RE: Kansas City Half-Marathon : Official Thread I did the race two years ago, it was my first and only open HM. A great race, well organized, nice finish, there were at least 3 live bands playing on the streets, one in Westport. This will be my encore performance at this event, hopefully I do a little better than last time, especially since I've done a full Mary and HIM since then. Pick a pace you think you can hang with for at least 10 miles. Then at 10 miles do a self check to see how you're feeling. If you're feeling good, start picking up the pace. At that point you know you've only got a 5K left. They will have pace groups, like 1:45, 1:50 etc. so pick at pace you think you can handle for at least 10 miles and stick with them. Last year it was about 38 deg F at start time so I'd be prepared to wear gloves, hat, long running tights etc. whichever you think you'll need at that temp. Hopefully it will be warmer this year, we'll see. Good luck, maybe see you out there. Two years ago there were about 4,500 runners doing the 13.1 Last year I think there were more. |
