thats me today, a big DNS!!!
Ended up at the ER for 7 hours yesterday with a headache, that turned into a ct scan, spinaltap and drugs....lots of drugs. Only thing that stopped the pain was good old morphene. I know I could have done the race, but it was the spinaltap that knocked me about (can barely walk this morning).
PLEASE, I`m having big withdrawls this morning while I watch the clock and imagine where I would be on the race. Right now I am on the bike with about 8 min to go before T2.
This sucks and I`m spewin big time. 6 monts of dedicated training.....boo hooo, I feel so sorry for myself...
I did call the event director who was wonderful and very understanding, she is sending me a coupon for next years race.

DOn't beat yourself up.  Having a spinal tap then racing the next day would probab;y not have been the smart thing to do.  Also if ya can't walk ya can't swim-bike-run.  Take it easy and see if there is another race soon you can sign up for.  Get better first tho

I am already signed up for a biathlon on Oct 22nd. Swim and run, should be fun. But, yes, very bummed about today. I`m just sitting here waiting for them to list the results.
They didn`t find anything terribly wrong, just a virus or something going on in my head. I have to take Vicodon for the next couple of days...that stuff is strong.

Wow what a cruddy way to spend the day. I hate those CT things, click click click.

I hope you are feeling better and that whatever is wrong is minor. Did they put you through the whole physical drill too? Close your eyes and stand on your tip toes, close your eyes and walk a straight line, give the day and date, tell them who some famous people are, cover your right eye with your left hand and stick out your tongue that sort of thing?

It can all get very old very quick. I hope your headaches go away or at least lessen in severity.

You should let us know which race this was where the race director was so understanding - cudos to her for being so understanding.

Don't worry, we all know how hard you've been training. That base will carry over until your next race and you'll kick butt. I'm looking forward until your next race and reading how well you finished in your age group. Hang tough.

You went in for a headache and ended up getting a ct scan & spinal tap?  That's some aggressive treatment...I suppose you tried Advil before the ER   Hopefully everything is okay...you'll be out there racing soon.

I'm glad you're feeling better! You're training won't go to waste, but it's frustrating to not get to race today. You will get to do some stuff in your duathlon. Maybe you can do a long bike ride that same weekend for the same effect?

I work in an ER, so unfortunately for some, I have inflicted the same discomfort (my spinal taps are usually painless, though!)

Headaches can be lots of things, migraine, cluster, tension, occipital neuralgia, anuerism, meningitis (including pneumococcal, meningiococcal, west nile, lyme), encephalitis, etc, etc, etc. Most of these are just a pain in the but, but some of them are deadly.

TH3_FRB: It's not aggressive it treatmenf the doctor has a suspicion that there could be a "sentinal bleed" or an aneurism causing a headache...any headache serious enough to bring someone to the ER is a SERIOUS headache and needs to be 'worked up' aggressively.

Wookie: It's nice to hear that the performance of my job "gets old" for the patients. How do you think I feel performing a dozen neurologic exams a day, that gets old, too.

Again, Glad you'll soon be on the mend and have plans to do a duathlon soon!

Hope you're feeling better! Pretty scary ending up in the ER like that!

Don't feel too bad about the DNS thing. It happened to me this weekend and I am just so angry. I was suppose to do a tri yesterday, the 17th: 1/2 mile swim, 23 mi bike, 5 mi run. Since I wasn't ready for the bike/run portion, my gilrs and I decided to do a relay. I was going to do the run. One of my friends called me Tuesday of race week to tell me she hadn't been training and wasn't ready to race (she was going to do the bike). A bit short notice, already paid, couldn't find a replacement. She said she'd pay me back the money. Well, lesson learned: If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself!

Get yourself better!
