zed707 - 2011-09-21 11:33 AM I believe the term is "schwag".

Seriously, my favorite has been a running cap. We all have too many shirts.
Actually, it is SWAG....S-tuff, W-e, A-ll, G-et.

My favorite has been a long sleeved tec T

The swag isn't really a focus for me for a race (the course, location, support, much much more so of course), but nice swag is always welcome.  Some of the more useful swag I've received are very nice backpack (silverman), a blanket (Bridge to Bridge 10K swim), gym bag and water bottle (Javelina Jundred), and hand held water bottles (north face endurance challenge).  Many of the local ultras give out coasters which are useful.  A running jacket (Dick Collins Fire Trails 50) is nice, but usually too large for me anyway.

My favorite item so far was a bag all the items came in.  It was a great transition bag that i keep my shoes in when it's raining.  Solid fabric, waterproof, Black, classy logos, looked great.

I don't race for swag, so it doesn't affect my choices. A lot of times I choose between which cause I'd like to contribute to if we have more than run race on a certain day.

ETA: We are spoiled with a lot of inexpensive races. Average run fee for races below 1/2 marathon are $10. 1/2 and full are max $60. So, I'd feel pretty bad about having issues with freebees.

A transition bag might be a good one - something to put your shoes in with the race name / sponsor on it.

As a huge coffee drinker (ie coffee snob) I always have a cup of coffee with me during the day so coffee cups or even travel mugs are great. I have enough water bottles to last a life time or two, but I am always on the lookout for a new coffee cup.

I also love shirts, even though I have a big collection of the already. There is nothing better for me than spending an hour or so talking to some highschool or college kids at the coffee shop or library because they were curious about one of my race shirts. It's real cool when I see them out at the next race lining up for the start and tell me they decided they could do it after talking to me about my racing.
