BT,

Putting together next season's race sked.  What are everyone's thoughts on the High Cliff Half Iron?

The price-point is pretty sweet.

Thanks.

Paul

I did it two years ago.  Overall, I think it is a well run event and it's small so far less hassle than an IM event where you are forced to drop your bike off the night before and stand in a big line to register.  The swim can be treacherous because Lake Winnebago is big and very shallow.  The year I did it they pulled many swimmers out because there were 3-5 foot waves and people panicked.  The bike is nice, nothing challenging other than the hill out of the park.  The run is primarily cross country and a mix of surfaces.  If it wasn't a race, I would love the terrain.

Not that big of a fan. They tear everything down very early and the run terrain kind of sucks. Bike is pretty flat, save a big hill right off the bat. Not the greatest organized race but I guess you get what you pay for...

Great event. I enjoyed it much more than the IM 70.3 event I did. Very well organized this year (my only) and the scenery is great. The trail style run is challenging but I really liked it. Go for it.

Thanks guys!  Will keep that one on the list of "possibles," but think I am going to focus on Boulder 70.3 and REV3 WI Dells...

Happy Racing!

Hey neighbor - i've done High Cliff a few times, not the most exciting, but had alot of fun camping with buddies  good weekend.   I like how you're considering REV-3 Dells.  I've never done DoorCounty 1/2IM, but heard alot of positives about that race.

I guess everyone has different tastes. I love the run. In fact, I used the run course for a lot of my marathon training in 2009.

I liked the run, too.  I raced the half twice and the sprint once or twice.  The trails are a different sort of race and I love running down the hill to the finish (I like the downhill at the end to the Door County half run, as well).

The swim is iffy and the biggest detractor from this race.  Big winds shorted the course a couple of years ago and you will always be in waist high shallow water until the first buoy.

Bike can be very windy in spots so train for it.
